2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI wonder how many people who are whining about "disenfranchisement" because they didn't bother
to learn how to qualify to vote in a Democratic primary, ever bothered to lift a finger, write a letter, march, donate (or withhold) money or do anything else of substance or import (other than vote in an online poll or rail on a message board) to protest the disenfranchisement of minority voters through photo id laws in North Carolina, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama or elsewhere.
I'm sure some did - and if you were among them, hats off to you. As for the rest, hmmm ...

(50,912 posts)That is considered a high percent for any party.
Only 23.5% are not registered with a political party. That is considered low for people not identifying with a party.

(14,249 posts)Democratic presidential candidates have been running in Democratic primaries for decades. This year is no different. The only thing that distinguishes this year from the past is that one of those candidates is a former independent and has actively campaigned to Independent voters. However, not include in that campaign to those voters any guidance or encouragement for those voters to do what they needed to do in order to legally vote for him. That's not a flaw in the process, that is a flaw in his campaign. And the campaign's failure to effectively get out its vote does not mean "the powers that be" are out to torpedo the candidate, nor is it a reason for the state to suddenly change its processes to accommodate what may be a one-time aberration.
