Related: About this forumHonest Question for those who Support Secretary Clinton
I was watching a TYT (The Young Turks) video the other day and they interviewed a lady that asked an interesting question.
It went something like this: (Paraphrasing)
What Advice would those who support Hillary Clinton give us, who do not care for her because of her Record and History, on how to criticize her record without it being skewed as being Sexist?
Or should we view every attack on Bernie as being Anti-Semitic?
(Bernie Bro sexist charges from Clinton campaign sycophants in 3.2.1.)

(5,240 posts)How can I talk about issues like: Her Iraq war support or her debate performance where she couldn't recognize the Palestinians were even human or her neocon leaning war hawk ways?

(958 posts)Cenk produces statements that are crafted to lead unsuspecting viewers around by the nose and produce an emotional response allowing Cenk to proclaim victory. He regularly polls his seated panel with the implied 'am I right?' to which they give the proper affirmation of 'yeah man, sing it Cenk!'.

(1,000 posts)That's Arafat's wife... who absconded with billions of foreign aid meant for the Palestinians in order to live a life of extreme luxury in the heart of Paris.
Hillary being pals with her is not a good thing for Hillary, given that Hillary's own billions are of equally dubious provenance.

(1,735 posts)about Sec Clinton is false. Corporate Media and republican politics has tried to demonize her for 30 years. They have rarely been proven correct. Those of us living in her time know just how vicious these attacks have been. Younger Bernie supporters can't actually say why they hate her, they just do. That's 30 years of misinformation. But if that doesn't convince you, just remember that the Supreme Court is crucial to the United States. Another life-termed republican judge would destroy much of the society we now live in. See how quickly the Citizens' United ruling has changed our election process. That's just one example. A President Clinton would appoint justices that at least will likely vote on the side of liberal and more progressive ideas. It's a guarantee that a republican president will try and destroy much of the gains of the past decades.
An easy choice.
Sky Masterson
(5,240 posts)But it isn't ALL false.
You can find video after video of her in her own words adopting horrid positions and stabbing the base in the back over and over to pander to people who won't vote for her.
Who am I to believe? My lying ears and eyes or your assessment?
Another thing to keep in mind is that people feel how they feel.
They like who they like and hate who they hate and they don't like her.
This is a recipe for a Republican victory.

(5,240 posts)We just went through an asinine "Corporate Whore" blow-up here because it made a twist-able soundbite like "CP Time" did.
People act like its a freaking Ali/Frazier fight here with the "Gotcha" stuff posted.
When it comes to the videos that I mention as having integrity, They are ones with her speaking in her own voice about things that aren't very liberal, nice,or brave that worry me.
The one where she talks to the interviewer about when she defended a man accused of raping a 12 year old.
The statement alone that precedes this line is enough to infuriate supporters of the Secretary.
It would me too if one popped up of Bernie saying the same words.
I won't post the video but its easily found on Youtube by searching "Hillary Clinton 12 year".
Find it, listen to it, and Imagine the Commercial the GOP is going to come out with.
It's 3 am.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)I don't like it, but I know that most of our country is not liberal enough, or selfless enough for that shit.
I know about the 12 year old victim, I also know she cited it as one of the most horrible cases she had ever had to work on in that same clip. And that she only took the case as a favor to someone else, and also got out of that to start a long and distinguished career promoting women's health, their rights and their lives. Bernie draws no criticism because he deals in platitudes.
If he ever got off his ass and tried to negotiate with a GOP congress on women's rights there would be some interesting comparisons to draw. But there are not, because he strictly co-signs other people work in that area, and never fights for us.

(5,240 posts)Chuck Todd spoke of a poll a few weeks back from the Primary which for the first time a majority of Democrat voters consider themselves Liberals. This is Huge!
And I feel from what I have seen that Bernie is a stronger candidate. But We aren't going to change who each other prefer in this race.
I am sure that was a hard case.
But those soundbites are pretty easy sell to the masses.
Fox will have a field day with it.
You've seen what they were able to do with two guys in the black panthers garb standing around a voting place.
It was nothing nefarious at all, but they sold it. And silly people ate it up.
Perception is often as bad as actual guilt.

(47,209 posts)At this point I think SBS biggest liability is all the finger pointing he does at other Dems. He is not going to be able to get many of congress on his side. Politics is politics, and I think he toasted himself already.

(5,240 posts)The Latino and AM communities will vote for Bernie if by the small chance he is the Nominee.
I don't think that they hate Bernie, I think they just like her more.
And I really don't see it as finger wagging.
Also, we kid ourselves if we assume that a republican congress will work with Hillary or Bernie.
Or that the Dems will rebel against their party leader. They won't.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)lots of congress, but am not stupid enough to think that gong it alone, or starting from scratch is smart.
To insult the fund raising she is doing for the entire party is moronic. It is exactly what we need right now.
I have never seen stats on all independents- only Independents voting Dem in the primary- tow different things. Do you have any that cover all indies?
Sky Masterson
(5,240 posts)As of having a link off of the top of my head, I don't have one.
Often I'll watch the polling breakdown that the pundits do and he always buries her with the I's.
As far as starting from scratch. Congress has an approve rating in the single digits.
Some feel that the only way to fix congress is to clean house.
This is an area where oddly enough Bernie and Trump both appeal to people who feel this.
Except Trumps supporters are mostly right-wing douche bags and white supremacist.
Obama sold us "Hope and Change".
And he did good.
I love almost everything he has done besides the drone policy and a few other scattered things.
IMHO these people will never feel Hopeful for any change with the status quo.
Unless they have someone to vote for then Voting is a kin to going to the DMV.
Independents votes win elections.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)Everyone who gets elected gets a shitty approval rating, and Congress is in no danger of being tossed on its ass.
I am actually hopeful that Hillary can do a lot of good- for the USSC, for our schools, and for employment and cleaner energy jobs. She is not all that different from Obama or from Bernie except she has detailed plans to do the work from day one- not to wait for years for a revolution.
I don't trust people to show up for the midterms because of Bernie, I don't think he is supporting enough candidates now.
Sky Masterson
(5,240 posts)The object is to get a majority of them.
And I know congress isn't going to get tossed out on their asses.
Change takes time. I believe Bernie to be a better choice shepherding that change.
I also think he is more electable.
Anyways. It was nice having a calm and level headed conversation with you were we listened regardless of if we agreed with each other without being nasty.

(16,110 posts)is met with calls of "sexism", well, that is less about actual sexism and more about shutting down discussion of very real issues.
Calling out her Iraq war vote isn't about sexism.
Calling out her support for fracking is also not about sexism.
Posting a video of her actually speaking about a topic is not sexist either.
And yet, there is a drumbeat that anything said about her other than "She's SO AWESOME!" is sexism.
IamMab
(1,359 posts)I personally have never even seen anyone on DU write "She's SO AWESOME," and I'm a regular member of the Hillary Group.
Iraq War vote? She apologized for it, YEARS AGO. What else do you demand, a hairshirt and a public flogging? It was twelve years ago, FFS. Fixated much?
Fracking is a legitimate method of extracting natural gas that, when done properly following all necessary guidelines, IS safe and effective. It's when companies violate regulations on groundwater and waste disposal that it becomes a natural disaster. This is true of a lot of technology than many people use on a daily basis. You know, cars are pretty bad for the environment; do you put your money where your mouth is and walk everywhere? No? What about your computer and cellphone, which use rare-earth metals that can't be recycled, ever? You had to have gotten online somehow, right? Don't be a hypocrite.
There's no effort to describe "ANY criticism" of her as sexist. Your side is making that up as a straw man to rant against, as you've done here today. But this isn't some low-information Sanders rally where every progressive dittohead is going to nod along and occasionally yell "Yeah!" every time you repeat a bad argument and think it scores you a point. Clinton supporters are actually educated on these issues, not just regurgitating leftwing talking points with no actual knowledge of the facts behind the issues.
Sky Masterson

NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)Go after a number of Clintons stances, often in an extremely harsh manner, and never had a concern that my words would be viewed as sexist.
Not sure why people have such difficulty with this. When talking about her fucked up IWR vote, don't include the completely unnecessary word whore. Same if you are trying to generate over the top warning if you think she is nothing but a corporatist. It might be a bad idea to throw money at a woman. Who would have ever thought. You might not want to reference her as yelling in a negative light, then in your next conversation talk about how you love Sanders volume and he is really bringing it.
People who don't get this are feigning ignorance, are ignorant, or are sexist.
This is politics at the highest level. Give people an opening and they are going to take it. That is common knowledge and politics 101. And Clinton has every right to call it out, as do her supporters.

Reading comprehension is very important for those who wish to convict people for their words. Got to get the indictment correctly arranged or it looks scammy and self serving.

I have never used the term Bernie Bros or sycophant (only Bernie supporters) and I've never called legitimate criticism sexist. Never. Not once. Do we really believe that if we do not challenge Secretary Clinton on issues and positions easily found everywhere on the internet with a simple google search that in the General The GOP wouldn't lay them out and twist them as they do so well?
And how is she going to be prepared to fight against these things google pops up?
Paid trolls hired by Hillary's Superpac isn't going to inoculate her from hard truths laid out for all to see.
Primaries toughen a candidate up. It made President Obama a better candidate.

That is a fact!
I know you are tough and strong.
But Why couldn't you show fairness and understanding when it comes to the Palestinians?

(12,754 posts)The problem is Clintonism. It has been dangerous in the past and it will be more dangerous in the future.
It was the Clintons and Clintonism that dragged the Democratic Party to the right -- and continues to do so.
It was Clintonism that did what its perpetrators could do to shred the social safety net.
It was Clintonism that handed the keys to the economy to the fraudsters and banksters.
Bernie is not perfect -- no candidate is -- but he's not a Clintonist.
Hillary is. If Hillary is put into the White House, say goodbye to Social Security and say goodbye to your young relatives who will be sent off to die in whatever sandpit or jungle Hillary sets her militant eyes on.
