(12,629 posts)I was surprised to learn that only two states; South Dakota and Texas, had "Sore Loser" laws that prevent failed party presidential candidates from running as independents.

(10,164 posts)I expect Jill Stein to do very well (in comparison to the usual Green numbers) if Hillary wins the nomination, as that's who a lot of Bernie supporters unwilling to vote for her will pick. But I don't see any third party, estqablished or newly-minted, having much of an effect this November.
The possible exception would be if Trump gets hosed at the GOP convention after coming in with a majority of delegates. He coudl be just pissed off enough to run, even though he couldn't get on the ballot in a lot of states He'd throw those he couldn't get on to the Democrat.
