2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNow here's an interesting question.
For sake of discussion, let's say that Hillary gets the Democratic nomination. She and Bernie negotiate for Bernie's endorsement, but that breaks down, and Bernie does not endorse her.
What does his senior adviser, Tad Devine do?
Tad has been running Bernie's campaign so far.
Now take a look at his clients on his website: http://dmlmessage.com/clients/
Kerry, Gore, Whitehouse, essentially a long list of prominent Democrats, present and a few past. (Tad was a senior adviser for the Dukakis, Gore and Kerry campaigns). And I'd bet that there are several more less prominent Dems.
It's obvious that Tad's financial future relies on Democratic clients.
If Bernie, who's running for the leadership of the Democratic Party, does not endorse or campaign for the Democratic nominee, it's rather obvious that he'll spend a long, long time in the wood shed back in WDC. Especially if Hillary lost the election.
So goes Bernie, so goes Tad? Money talks, and for Tad, the health of his future income would be talking to him.
Overall, an interesting dilemma for Tad. Which adds to the unpredictability of July and thereafter.

(2,348 posts)No matter what, Bernie will give some sort of tepid endorsement to Hillary. It would be career suicide if he didn't. Unless he plans to retire, he would never get a prime spot on a committee without playing nice with the party. He's be a lone angry guy out there on his own with absolutely no power.

(22,871 posts)If not,Devine will quickly distance himself from Sanders,I doubt that it would be much of a dilemma for him at that point.

(33,224 posts)Sanders failure to endorse her would be crippling. Clinton knows the real magnitude of his support. I have my doubts that her ego would allow her to turn on her Wall Street benefactors.

(19,460 posts)Hillary will have her own platform. It will not be Bernie's.

(33,224 posts)What we have here is failure to communicate. Sanders is not in this for himself - Clinton supporters do not understand.

(3,226 posts)If he is not the nominee, he will stay in the party and most of his people will stay as well the Demorcarate party is on its way back to its roots that of FDR. As much as the insiders want to stay in power the writing is on the wall the future of our party belongs to Bernie's people for this is slowly becoming once again the party of, by and for the people. We are talking about a revolution which may be slowed but will not stop, the torch has been pasted. Bernie has carried the flame of the freedom movements of the 60s and millions of young people have once again become inspired to change the system and will carry flame on until the corruption in the halls of power is burn down, not by force or greed but by belief in the great people of this once great country.

(12,685 posts)It will NEVER again be the party of FDR.

(3,226 posts)That is the thing about corruption it rots things from the inside out. Corporatist may still be in control today but the new voters are fast learners and change is happening faster than the bosses realize. Just like in Colorado Bernie's people are slowing gaining power partly because they can not be bought.

(6,551 posts)But it will take a generation of time. Currently, liberals comprise less than a third of the Democratic party. Seventy percent are moderates and Blue Democrats.

(12,685 posts)Clinton wants to desperately keep that hidden).

(6,551 posts)Tad would have to go on a lot of TV shows and defend the move - a 'Democrat' refusing to endorse the party nominee.
A tough meme to sell for a man's whose success has come from the Democratic party.

(6,551 posts)As a Hillary supporter, I agree with your Brock characterization. Hopefully he's reformed because in his rabid conservative days, he was awful.
