Social Conservatives, However Reluctant, Are Warming to the Idea of TrumpHes not my first choice. Hes not my second choice, she added. But any
concerns I have about him pale in contrast to Hillary Clinton.

(2,760 posts)"Democratic socialist" any more than they like Hillary
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)Also Bernie does much better with independents than Hillary

(15,438 posts)What does it tell you when all those "independents" get outraged they can't muck up the Democratic Party nomination process? Many registered only to vote for Sanders and then unregistered themselves only to find their little plan of stealing delegates in NV fell through. Aw.
"Independents" are the reason why we still have Republicans controlling U.S. Congress and SCOTUS. I have very little to no respect or kind feelings for these "independents". But then again, I AM a Democrat.

(16,974 posts)To win in November, way to dis them. She won by limiting the vote.

(58,785 posts)An elderly Jewish hippie socialist who honeymooned in Moscow, fathered a child out of wedlock, and didn't hold his first long-term steady job until he was almost 40? And these are just simple little truths.
All the social conservatives I know, and unfortunately there have been a lot, would be hissing his name and demanding his arrest and imprisonment before talk radio even really got started on him. And they would already have come to believe the survival of our nation depended on it.
They are incredibly vicious political adversaries. Think the Bernie zealots are addicted to hostility and aggression, greedily internalizing every lie they can find, villifying their opponents beyond all recognition just so they can attack, attack, attack with great righteousness?
The SBS zealots are David Koch compared to the right wing's Charles. And the SBSers' opportunities to act out are like DU compared to Fox, Talk Radio, and the right wing's character assassination machine.

(58,785 posts)slice and dice Bernie overnight with slanders that practically create themselves, adding in sharpened fingernails and laser hate glares just for special enjoyment, and you're right.
Btw, I love that a man can spend a quarter century trying various ways of life, with no consideration for accumulating money or possessions, spend his middle years developing a special interest, and then run for president in his elder years. Wonderful! But that's not the point.

(8,788 posts)Trump's supporters literally don't care what he says and does. He's playing their stupidity and id like a fiddle. And its working. Already he's convinced half the nation to look past his failures both professionally and personally. Talk to a Trump supporter about the issues some time, bring up his failures, they'll ignore it.
Bernie would struggle with this too, maybe more. He excites white liberal independents for the most part, that's about it. Thinking Bernie will play well with moderate and conservative Independents is not reality.

(67,112 posts)playing their stupidity and id like a fiddle." It's quite sad what the US is dissolving into on its march to full Idiocracy.
I do wonder, however, if HRC's plan to have Bill as economic adviser is wise. Millions upon millions literally hate some of the financial things he did as president. My concern is this is going to play right into Trump's plans of targeting her as a wall street elitist and fully engrossed in the establishment they hate.
apnu
(8,788 posts)She needs to step out of his shadow and be her own person. Having him campaign is one thing, but putting him in a position of authority, any authority, is a mistake, I think. People will take it as if Hillary is running for Bill's 3rd term. America is still very misogynist.

That would be Bernie, not Trump or Hillary.

(45,251 posts)Let's hope more Republicans than Democrats stay home in November. I have a feeling that's what this election will come down to.

(418 posts)Trump won't put out taxes because he doesn't pay as much as the rest of us. He wants more cuts for billionaires. Hillary has historic negatives. But it's our candidate. If comrade you won't vote for top of the ticket, don't ignore down ticket which is ignored financially by Sanders.

(418 posts)If he is the nominee of the party I will vote for him. Countless people on the Democratic Underground will not support Clinton because she is a capitalist. Senator McCaskill said he will be branded a communist, Trump has called him one. Sitting it out is your choice. When the party loses down ticket, what have you won?
djean111
(14,255 posts)I have every intention of voting down-ticket. I will no longer vote for DINOs.
Oh, and Bernie regularly raises funds for down-ticket. Hillary, on the other hand, takes money AWAY from down-ticket - that money is just laundered through the state organizations and back to Hillary. Sounds almost Soviet, doesn't it?
Bernie admires Democratic Socialism. Your attempts to brand Bernie as a Socialist or Communist won't work here at DU. Not on bernie's supporters, anyway.
I am delighted you will vote.
