Pledged Delegates at the Democratic Convention Can Indeed Change Their Votes

Someone posted that earlier today, and it's true.

One of the situations where that can happen and has happened is when the second place candidate concedes and calls for the nomination of the winner by acclamation. That happened in 2008, when Hillary Clinton made that motion herself. Following that, Barack Obama was, indeed, nominated by acclamation.

A similar thing is very, very likely to happen at the 2016 convention. If Bernie Sanders is smart, and I think he is, he will follow Hillary Clinton's 2008 lead and call for her nomination by acclamation from the floor. He is a super delegate, you know, and can get the floor to make that motion.

He has pledged to "do everything he can" to prevent Donald Trump from getting elected. At the convention, he can honor that pledge by ending the competition and calling for an acclamation vote for Clinton.
Watch for him to do that. I expect it.

Unanimous nomination of Hillary Clinton is very likely at the 2016 Democratic Nominating Convention. It can happen as described above, and the pledged delegates change their vote on the first ballot.

2. I think you are wrong about that.

There's plenty of time for Bernie to think about this between the last primary on June 14 and the beginning of the convention in late July. I believe he will come to that decision fairly soon after the last primary.

You may think otherwise, and that's fine. We'll find out, though, won't we?

4. And since delegates, pledged or super, can switch, 2383 is 2383.

People argue that Clinton can't be considered the nominee without reaching 2383 via pledged delegates alone, on the basis that superdelegates can switch. Well, pledged delegates can also switch. Of course nothing is official until the convention (thus we have the term "presumed nominee&quot , but the 2383 argument is lacking consistency.

Trump was sincere or not.

Hope he's honest.

primary has been held. Get all the votes in all of the jurisdictions first. Then, give him a day or a few days. He'll figure it out.

I think his pledge to work to defeat Trump is definitely sincere. He's an honest, straightforward man.

I'm not very good at predicting what individuals will do. Nobody is, really. Individuals decide for themselves. However, common sense says that he'll do what is most effective at achieving his goals.

Sometimes I'm wrong, of course, but I like Bernie, and think he's as good as his word.

Bernie promised to run a positive campaign. Then he sued the DNC, accused the DNC and Clinton of violating federal banking and campaign finance law, said Hillary Clinton was unqualified for office, and tried to collect the scalps of Dan Malloy and Barney Frank.
