Related: About this forumClinton: US Has ‘Moral Obligation’ To Defend Israel
ying out her foreign policy vision, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton vowed Thursday that the US would never abandon Israel, arguing that there was a moral obligation to support its closest Mideast ally.
Israels security is non-negotiable, Clinton said in a speech in San Diego, less than a week before Californian Democrats vote on their pick for nominee. They are our closest ally in the region and we have a moral obligation to defend them, she said.
Seeking to draw a sharp contrast with Donald Trump, the former secretary of state said the US must also maintain strong partnerships with its allies. The presumptive GOP nominee has raised the prospect of the US leaving NATO and has said allies must contribute more financially to security agreements with the US.
Clinton lambasted Trumps foreign policy vision as one of war, international turmoil and economic crisis. She contrasted that with what she portrayed as her optimistic, inclusive and diplomatic view of the world, born from her long experience in public life.

Well, she says Israels security is non-negotiable -- I don't think Bernie has refuted this. Maybe Trump has said he will negotiate anything because he's just such a great negotiator.

BTW, I wouldn't be averse to such a treaty with Israel if Israel returned to the pre-1967 borders (with some give and take as agreed with the Palestinians).

The entire 'Foreign Policy' discourse was all about 'Our National Interest'. No more, no less.

Bibi Netanyahu and other right wing Israelis seem to try to get the US to go to war for them and to support them when they do dumb things like their last war against Lebanon, but we are not obligated by treaty to do so. They sometimes brag in public about how they have the US in their pocket. We give them big loans for military equipment every year, but in the past they have been accused of selling our secrets to Russia and China. Our congresspeople literally pledge undying loyalty to Israel, and our congresspeople fall all over themselves when Bibi comes to visit. Bibi also supported Romney in the 2012 election. He was all over TV, but he came right up to the edge of violating our laws, but didn't cross the line, but no one had any doubt about it. Some of us were offended.
You Brits generally don't do things like this, and many of us here appreciate that about you, including this writer. I would rather that our politicians stay out of your business and treat you with the respect that you deserve, just like you do with us.
No one here wants Israel to be overrun by its enemies, but it is not pleasant when some Israelis treat us like their poodles. Perhaps you can understand that.
