2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHoward Dean calls Elizabeth Warren too old to be HRC VP.
Reporter Andrea Mitchell said that Warren was one of the strongest critics of Donald Trump, and pointed out that a Clinton-Warren ticket would send a strong signal to the partys progressive side.
Certainly somebody like that would be very helpful, Dean said about the the Massachusetts senator.
But then he added, I strongly believe we ought to have somebody under 50 on the ticket. I think the Baby Boomers have run this country for too long. We stepped away from that with Barrack Obama; we dont normally go back a generation. Were gonna have two Baby Boomers running for president on the Democratic and the Republican side. So I would like somebody very much who is not in the Baby Boomer generation. Who is in this new upcoming generation the younger the better.

(8,812 posts)Relatively few people enter politics with the explicit intention of becoming corrupted. Unfortunately, the siren song of corruption is extremely difficult to resist, especially since it's largely systemic.
That makes Bernie all the more extraordinary.
By the way, one of the more sobering (!!) cautionary tales is that of Candy Lightner, the founder of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, who eventually became a lobbyist for restaurants and breweries.

Let's all do our part to elect a Democrat to the White House and make sure that it is 2024.

(59,503 posts)Now, if Howard Dean REALLY wants those years not to be very overweighted - he should support Bernie getting the nomination and winning the Presidency. Unlike both Trump and HRC, he is not a baby boomer. He is a war baby - a cohort that has yet to get a President. They would have had Ohio not had voter suppression in 2004 - because Kerry is a war baby too. McCain was born in 1936 - and I have no idea what his cohort was called.
So far, we have had 6 terms worth of baby boomers or 24 years. If proportional, they should get just 18 years - between 4 and 5 terms.
The fact is THIS IS THE SILLIEST ARGUMENT FOR PRESIDENT OR VP.

(7,596 posts)Both these nominees are as old as dirt. I can't say I'm too wild about the idea that we're going to go from having a president born in the 1960s all the way back to one born in the 1940s. If that makes me ageist, then fine. I don't care. We've already had two president born in the '40s and I could have done without either one.
