I think this whole country is sliding into the dump - crass, rude and mean. Many on DU included.

(12,769 posts)its not Clinton supporters throwing mud. Its Bernies. More reason Hillary will be nominee, we cannot allow gutter politics to be the norm.

And I enjoyed every moment of it.
I love primary wars.

I think we were lured here into a false sense of calm after 2000
I realize now such is just not possible....

(45,851 posts)In retrospect 2008 was two establishment figures competing, I figured out Obama was establishment by the time of the FISA vote so it really didn't matter too much to me which one beat McCain.
It's different this time, Hillary is the same uber establishment authoritarian war hawk she's always been but Sanders is speaking to a part of me I thought had died forty years ago.

(45,851 posts)I can think of several posters who loathed Clinton in 2008 and are among her most staunch defenders in 2016.

Hillary obviously needs intervention and intense psychiatric counseling.
Maybe after years of therapy she can regain some semblance of basic humanity.
Maybe....

(45,851 posts)I wasn't paying attention since I didn't have a specific candidate although I found Obama the most personable and likeable. I liked what Edwards had to say the most but he always came across like the traveling salesman in the hotel bar at three AM trying to talk the waitress into going up to his room with him.

(62,270 posts)The consensus was always that it hinged on the pledged delegates. People were more worried Clinton would contest it with how close it was.

Her moves were appreciated, but part of me was like "awww hell no" when she was announced as SOS.

(62,270 posts)As well as many many DUers. ProSense started the bullshit "Obama got boxed in by Clinton" argument, and actually, I'd like to think that was the beginning of nearly eight years of trashing Obama on a lot of unnecessary garbage.
Obama is and always has been magnanimous, his choice to pick Clinton for SoS was pure class.

(4,734 posts)There were lots of grenades thrown at each of the candidates. Accusations of racism and sexism. Inexperience versus corrupt. The positive wave of Obama's campaign was pretty hard to snuff out so I felt for the Clinton supporters. But like the Bernie supporters this time, they were put in the position of having to argue against the leading nominee which made them sound extremely bitter and hostile at times.
It was bad then. It's worse this time.

(10,118 posts)I Think the Trumpsers posing as Berners is causing the most division,
The Bernie fans I know in the real world hope he wins but don't hate Hillary if she wins.
There mindset is beat Trump, whoever it is.

There was some nonsense at the end with the whole PUMA thing, and some Obama people wouldn't stop being dicks to people who supported other candidates, but I think by the end of summer, we were all pretty united for the General.

(50,254 posts)There were even HRC people then who insisted that it was no big deal when she implied that we shouldn't nominate Obama(and said this on the eve of the California primary, of all the least appropriate times to say such a thing)because someone might assassinate him.
Some Obama people didn't behave that well, either.
(a lot of folks were banned after that cycle, IIRC).

Most Clinton supporters fell in line, either left the site, or went quiet.
