Related: About this forumCalifornia voters -- IMPORTANT INFORMATION -- don't let them steal the election
Mike Malloy is reporting that he heard from a polling worker in Orange County, CA that they were told to give all NPP (Independent) voters PROVISIONAL BALLOTS.
Provisional Ballots are not counted.
SOLUTION . . .if you are an independent, don't accept a provisional ballot but insist that you get a Democratic ballot.

(32,342 posts)What Happens After You Cast a Provisional Ballot?
Your provisional ballot will be counted after elections officials have confirmed that you are registered to vote in that county and you did not already vote in that election.
You may vote a provisional ballot at any polling place in the county in which you are registered to vote, however, only the elections contests you are eligible to vote for will be counted.
How Can You Check The Status of Your Provisional Ballot?
Every voter who casts a provisional ballot has the right to find out from their county elections official if the ballot was counted and, if not, the reason why it was not counted.
Visit www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-status for a list of county contacts and information on how to check the status of your provisional ballot.

(18,628 posts)It's incredible that people who want Bernie to completely overhaul the government know little about how it works.
People must think they just throw provisionals in the garbage.

(32,342 posts)He posted some murky theory based on an experience in another states elections with provisional ballots and then claimed the bare word of Ashley the poll worker meant the same thing happens in CA.
It's garbage.

(18,628 posts)At least that's how a conspiracy theorist would hear it.
If the number of provisionals equal an amount that could alter the outcome, then they count them. Otherwise they're discarded.
Obviously there's no fraud but some would just hear "threw them away".

(11,197 posts)that it's "OK". Why not just give them a Democratic Party ballot as allowed? Why the push for use of provisional ballots? I know why, (1) despite all the reassurances, primary ballots are not counted on primary day, if at all, and (2) massive new voter registration scares the beejesus out of camp Hillary.

(32,342 posts)They are counted. We have some of the cleanest and most accessible elections in the country.
Why couldn't NPP voters register as Dems for one election and save all this fucking DRAMA?

(146,288 posts)a poll worker training session in Orange County. That nonsense has been corrected. To continue bringing it up is a bit obviously an empty strategy.
Any NPP voter who requests the Democratic Primary Ballot will be given one. It will not be classed as a provisional ballot, either.
The CA Secretary of State has made that crystal clear.

(7,321 posts)reference of registered "Independents" is often confused to poll workers (here in California) with the white supremacist American Independent party, a state registered party.
The bottom line though, all registered NPP voters who wish to vote for a president in the primary, must request the ballot of the party of their choice (D, R, AI) when they show up at their precinct. If they don't request one of the three, they will receive a ballot with no presidential choice, essentially a "blank ballot" for that contest.
If Orange County is instructing poll workers to hand out provisionals to registered NNP voters, they've been instructed incorrectly and that correction should be made by the country registrars office or the state AND the MEDIA!
pdsimdars
(6,007 posts)So, what I said was correct and every NPP (independent) should make sure to get a Democratic ballot.

(7,321 posts)I wasn't quibbling with the jest of the statement...
a lot of discussion here in California regarding the term Independent as it does refer to a registered party with the state. and many younger independent voters who are actually NPP are not largely aware of that.
that's all I'm saying..

(12,769 posts)Many poll workers use them because they aren't stationed where they vote and can't make it to their polling place. Every provisional ballot is counted after it is ensured the voter hasn't already voted somewhere else or by mail and is a a registered voter.
And no, Non-partisan voters do not need to use a provisional ballot unless they had a ballot mailed to them and don't bring it with them or are in the wrong polling place. All poll workers get training and should be aware of this. Non-partisan voters also get information mailed to them to explain what party ballots they may chose from.
