A meme that used to be very popular on DU, now I never see it here
I wonder if DU will go through this again with Hillary?

1. Nah, people will just be accused of sexism constantly.
You know, just like the past year, and before that 2007 and 2008.

something similar maybe but different words.
she handled it well during the Benghazi thing. |

It was here constantly three or four years ago.

elections after 3-4 years ago.

8. I don't recall it that way
In fact the elections is exactly where Obama doesn't have control, that's where the voters come in.

Cute. But what does it have to do with the discussion in this thread? |

11. It wasn't that you didn't support her, you analyzed her flawed character brilliantly in my opinion
Even better than Steven Leser in 2008 when he said she was a "Rovian character" although his essay was pretty damn good.
You are quite the wordsmith, I envy you that since my short term memory is about gone and I can't really write long pieces any more, I have to keep going back and rereading to see what I've already said. That really upsets the flow of writing in a long piece. On the other hand once I manage to get something into long term memory it still works quite well. |

12. She is flawed.
Just like every other human being - just like every other politician - just like every other candidate.
I have no problem with that. What I DO have a problem with is people who think their candidate is a flawless saviour who would have righted all wrongs, stopped all injustices, and ushered-in a utopian world where everyone would have free college tuition and single-payer healthcare - if only "The Establishment" had not stepped-in to prevent his ascension to his rightful place. And yet they're the same people who cheered their Saviour when he said he would convince the super-delegates to ignore the will of the people and hand him the nomination. |

But I'm not being coy here. I honestly don't know what point you're making.

25. The same crap was flung by the Clinton campaign against Obama and his supporters...
Last edited Fri Jun 17, 2016, 12:07 PM - Edit history (1) that is now being flung against supporters of Sanders. Right down to the use of the word "savior" and the implication that most of us are too stupid to recognize that he's just a human being.
Handy little meme to toss around against any candidate who challenges the rigid Democratic Machine. |

28. I agree. That "Savior" meme really rankles me.
I support Sanders even though I regard him as a fallible human being and I sometimes disagree with him.
Sanders went from single digits in the polls to getting more than 40% of the vote against a candidate who had the overwhelming support of the party establishment. He did so while being unafraid to use that dreaded "S" word (no, not "savior" ![]() I wonder whether that kind of insult will be allowed here after June 20. |

31. My guess is that Skinner won't want that result but a lot of jurors will.
Skinner doesn't want incivility here but also doesn't want to overrule juries. He may find those two goals incompatible, if the Clinton supporters take the bit in their teeth.
In fact, he may find that they need to be brought to heel. ![]() |

35. I'm not holding my breath.
Most of the ugliness here is the work of a very small group, and most of them have been at it for years. In that time, they have received one lifeline/bailout/amnesty after another. I think civility isn't really a big concern here.

if she were to be presented in such a way.
Also, like it or not that piece of stagecraft at the convention involved presenting Obama as an alpha male asserting his dominance. Women don't get to run that particular play. |

it just doesn't work. if a woman tries to assert herself, there's a backlash unless people are already really positively disposed to her.
