2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBoston Globe reporter on why Trump won't pivot and he won't change,
despite his campaign shake-up: he's still the same old narcissist.

Thats all Trump. Indeed, his behavior over the past several weeks is emblematic of how hes comported himself over the past year on the campaign trail.
Hes shown himself, again and again, to be an acute narcissist with a striking lack of impulse control. He incessantly lies, exaggerates, and self-promotes. He uses childish putdowns and insults to criticize his political rivals, opponents, the media, and even some of his own allies. And though he claims that he has very strong, very thick skin, he is over-sensitive to even the most benign criticism.
Because of his extraordinary narcissism, hes incapable of change. Moderating his behavior and taking advice from those with actual political experience would mean admitting, if only implicitly, that his previous behavior was wrong. But narcissists like Trump dont act that way. They dont admit mistakes; they dont reflect, and they dont show what they perceive to be weakness. They just plow ahead looking for new adulation, new people to bully, and new opportunities to stick it to their perceived enemies. Lewandowski had become a problem for Trump, so Trump unceremoniously had him shown the door, putting the blame for the campaigns recent problems on him, not Trump. Make no mistake, there is no pivot coming, no moderation, no Trump 2.0.
All America can do now is just ride out the storm.

(25,480 posts)There have been no signs that he *can* moderate, much less has any desire to.
The "fear" that he'd turn into some moderate/leftie for the GE always seemed a little concern-trollish to me.

He is such a coward it wouldn't surprise me if he chickens out.

(27,742 posts)Things where he appears someplace and donates the proceeds after expenses to some cause. The problem with this tactic is that he is so tarnished that it will be hard to break even at these "Events" unless he bankrolls them personally.
