Boston Globe reporter on why Trump won't pivot and he won't change,

despite his campaign shake-up: he's still the same old narcissist.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2016/06/21/there-trump/0V0StZKSxC4ZaJYXOoVUVI/story.html?event=event12

That’s all Trump. Indeed, his behavior over the past several weeks is emblematic of how he’s comported himself over the past year on the campaign trail.

He’s shown himself, again and again, to be an acute narcissist with a striking lack of impulse control. He incessantly lies, exaggerates, and self-promotes. He uses childish putdowns and insults to criticize his political rivals, opponents, the media, and even some of his own allies. And though he claims that he has “very strong, very thick skin,” he is over-sensitive to even the most benign criticism.

Because of his extraordinary narcissism, he’s incapable of change. Moderating his behavior and taking advice from those with actual political experience would mean admitting, if only implicitly, that his previous behavior was wrong. But narcissists like Trump don’t act that way. They don’t admit mistakes; they don’t reflect, and they don’t show what they perceive to be weakness. They just plow ahead looking for new adulation, new people to bully, and new opportunities to stick it to their perceived enemies. Lewandowski had become a problem for Trump, so Trump unceremoniously had him shown the door, putting the blame for the campaign’s recent problems on him, not Trump. Make no mistake, there is no pivot coming, no moderation, no Trump 2.0.

All America can do now is just ride out the storm.

2. The assumption that he'd be able to moderate in the GE was always pretty flawed.

There have been no signs that he *can* moderate, much less has any desire to.

The "fear" that he'd turn into some moderate/leftie for the GE always seemed a little concern-trollish to me.

11. I believe that's the simple truth. He can "act"

in a way that he knows will sell better for a while, but stick to it? Want to stick to it? Listen to his inferiors for more than a very short period after a bad backlash to something he did?

Rachel Maddow has a theory that Don the con will refuse to debate Hillary.

He is such a coward it wouldn't surprise me if he chickens out.

Things where he appears someplace and donates the proceeds after expenses to some cause. The problem with this tactic is that he is so tarnished that it will be hard to break even at these "Events" unless he bankrolls them personally.

He's no match for Hillary's intellect, and he knows it.

15. A debate against him

would be like the Jerry Springer Show. I'm thinking he'll probably wimp out of the debates, but if he will debate, he'll be rude and loud, and sling more playground taunts as usual.
