2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSign up for Hillary's texts to get first notice of her VP pick, per AP....
The campaign says in an email to supporters on Monday that "when Hillary makes the big decision, we'll text you within seconds!"
Clinton is considering several possible running mates, including Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.
She is expected to announce her decision before the Democratic National Convention later this month in Philadelphia.
The tactic is similar to one used by Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, when he encouraged people to sign up for emailed updates when he was considering running mates. Obama eventually chose Joe Biden

(22,069 posts)The AP had to actually remind their readers that the current vice president is Joe Biden?
Really?!
I cry for our country.
That writer must be getting paid by the word.

(5,943 posts)but I never get anything else from her campaign. I have to go on Reddit to get the latest stuff everyone else is getting via Hill Mail. Argh.

(12,233 posts)from places that shouldn't have my phone number... I can't imagine purposefully signing up for the DNC or any political apparatus to have my phone number...
Do you remember in 2012 Obama re-election and the run up to? Every day the DNC, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and even Valleri Jarrett would send out e-mail blurbs and ask for money... I can't imagine letting them all have text msg access too. Yikes.
The second she announces, it will be on every social media tweet and Facebook blurb; along with everyone's opinion on the pick as well.

(23,156 posts)Speaking only for myself, I'm guessing that the advance notice would work out to perhaps thirty seconds ahead of it being reported on the media.

(12,233 posts)at the houses of VP contenders in 2008? They knew well before the announcement and scooped the alert because the secret service showed up at the VP house of Biden... Plus, all of Joe's family just happened to be gathered together at the same time... LOL.

(23,156 posts)So true. If signing up for the texts gave you meaningful information well ahead of time, it might be worthwhile.
I generally learn about things in a sufficiently timely manner without such things.
