Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)Sure, he's been in elected office for awhile but he has little charisma, little appeal, and is mostly unknown to people outside of Virginia. I can see why Clinton wants to play it safe and appear to be the stable candidate, while Trump looks like a screaming hippo with explosive diarrhea. However, there is a difference between going with a safe candidate and going with someone that is extremely dull.
DanTex
(20,709 posts)In ruthlessly political terms, I think the inclination to choose a Latino is somewhat lessened by the fact that Trump has already offended the entire Latino community. Warren would mean two women on the ticket, which might be too much for men with latent sexist tendencies. So who's left? A boring white guy from a swing state.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)I think there are much better white guys that she could pick though, if she wants to go that route. I just hope that if they go with Kaine that they have reason to believe he is a better candidate than we give him credit for.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)I think Warren would do enough to unify the disparate wings of the party and enthuse voters- plus she's proven she can kick ass and take names- that it would make up both for the loss of the Senate seat and any freakouts over "two women".
DanTex
(20,709 posts)because Hillary isn't socialist enough aren't going to vote for her even with Warren on the ticket. If you doubt that, see what some such people have been saying about Warren on some other websites/youtube since she started campaigning for Hillary. On the other hand, I don't really know how irrational or sexist people vote, so maybe those things actually can happen.
I'd be happy with Warren, my only real concern is losing the Senate seat. Politically, it would help with the liberal base but might hurt with trying to pull centrists and moderate Republican cross-overs.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)That's part of it.
I don't really pay attention to other websites or youtube. You know, there's only one of me, I barely have time for this place.
DanTex
(20,709 posts)If you need more time for looking at websites, take some time off work and get on the David Brock payroll. Tell him I sent you...

(45,319 posts)turnout. Just to be clear. He was a terrible Chair of the Party.
morningfog
(18,115 posts)urgency, of a Latino on the ticket. It fact, to me, it almost requires it. As a way to say, no, that is not who we are. Xavier Beccera for VEEP.
Lord Magus
(1,999 posts)His upside is that when they do hear of him they'll like what they see. And besides, it's not like Tim Kaine has a national profile either.
Chan790
(20,176 posts)He's also to the right of Hillary, a bad debater and comes across as dull in the noggin. I'm not sure what he brings to the ticket.
He's not exciting, he's not charismatic or a great campaigner, he's not an attack dog that allows HRC to remain above the fray (and she's at her best in the fray), he doesn't have any grand ideas or issues that his nomination conveys, he's not "the guy you want in case he needs to step up, god forbid", he's not a Democrat likely to move his home state. (That would be the other VA Senator. Honestly, Kaine seems to just have a lot of luck of being the Democrat on the ballot when the GOP goes crazy and nominates the unelectable.), his term as DNC chair was poor and only looks good in retrospect because DWS who followed him is epically-bad at the job.
We can do better. We should do better because there's a solid chance this is our 2024 nominee, whoever Hillary picks.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)he was antichoice a decade ago, but of course has 'evolved' on the issue as he's become a national politician, and as VA has gotten bluer and bluer

(9,359 posts)The Democratic Party knows who he is, not even in Texas.
I think it will be Kaine. Yes he's dull but he at least has a slight name recognition on the national stage and a big one in VA.
misterhighwasted
(9,148 posts)There's not much baggage with him, for the GOP to drag up. No old conflicts within the Dem Party in his history.
Who knows.
Maybe Hillary has someone else who's name she's keeping quiet.
Playing her cards close to the vest is something she does for necessary reasons. Especially when playing a high stakes game against the corrupt cheaters of the GOP.
We can only guess until she officially makes her choice known.
Enjoy your day.

(1,975 posts)Im gonna have to pick General Michael Flynn. I think that he is going to need to pick somebody that shows the public that he has somebody with military experience.
Heard it here first.
For Clinton, Im gonna have to go with Tom Perez. nothing concrete, just a hunch.
