Seems some here are showing some true colors...
Seriously....there are plenty of better things to attack Trump on. Attacking his wife's accent is way below the belt.

(5,611 posts)People here are pointing out that it is hypocritical for repubs like Coulter to condemn democratic immigrants with accents as un-American while supporting a woman who has lived for twenty years in the United States yet still has an extremely thick accent. If Melania were a democratic Coulter and others would blather on incessantly about her thick accent and her unwillingness to polish her English in order to be a "true 'Murican"
Silver_Witch

TeddyR
(2,493 posts)When did family members become acceptable objects for political attack? You yourself said Michelle has endured worse, but that doesn't excuse attacks on a Republican candidate's family. And people on here weren't questioning her political views, which would be fair game, but were attacking her personally because of her speaking skills and heavy accent. I recognize that Republicans have engaged in these types of attacks, but they are childish, despicable and shouldn't be condoned.

(68,689 posts)And I am a Clinton supporter. I will say this...it seems most who are so outraged on Melania's behalf did not support Hillary Clinton in the primary.
VulgarPoet
(2,872 posts)As for pointing out the outrage, I'm not gonna lie, I'm starting to notice it too-- and I'm a little confused by it. The only thing that irks me about all this is that there's at least one thread in GD:2016 that even stoops to blatant sexism, isn't that something we're supposed to be against?
Demsrule86
(68,689 posts)You have to wonder when they pounce on any attacks on the GOP by Democrats who want to win as not important or my favorite over the top...and then advise us to concentrate on something else. Yet if Hillary says anything she needs to move right on Syria or left on the VP choice...and on and on it goes.
Silver_Witch
(1,820 posts)Supported attacks on her speech, dress or hair style. That is wrong on both sides.
Demsrule86

Silver_Witch

(51,015 posts)the Democratic presidential candidate, they celebrate sexism, they promote and believe every conspiracy theory that has ever been written about Hillary Clinton and the American government in general, and many of them openly support Trump.
When it comes to politics and DU and JPR, we have all chosen our tribe. Pinebaggers are fair game here.
Demsrule86
(68,689 posts)And she stole material from Mrs. Obama...and she was being used by the campaign thus I have no problem with it. I am surprised that any Democrat is defending her.
TeddyR
(2,493 posts)First, who are the "many of you" you reference? I never attacked Bill Clinton. Frankly think he was a good president.
The plagiarism issue is separate so don't try to conflate the two. She deserves whatever criticism she gets for that act, but that wasn't what she was being attacked for last night. She was subjected to personal attacks last night. Those types of attacks were plainly inappropriate and childish and I can't believe anyone on this board would defend them.
Demsrule86
(68,689 posts)Spouses involved in the campaign are fair game, and she stole material from Michelle Obama...seems disturbing to see DUer's defending the GOP. Michelle Obama certainly was attacked by the right.

(1,580 posts)In fact, I have seen many post on Bill on this site. The post about her accent pointed out how the repugs are saying one thing about her accent and another about other immigrants accents. Its the repugs who are being criticized not Melania. Although I don't think much of someone who hears what Trump says and doesn't take issue with it but rather defends what he says as great.

Willy T wrote and quadrupled down on "Stockholm Syndrome", the most vile homophobic and racist OP I've ever seen on DU.

(44,186 posts)He argued AA voters and LGBT voters who supported HRC were ignorant and mentally ill.
Manny continually distorted Obama's record and Falsely claimed Democrats wanted to implement the Paul Ryan Budget. Yet never said a bad thing about Ryan himself or criticized any Republican.
Admins eventually wised up to his blatant trollery.
Look I really don't want to be speaking ill of former DU'ers but there are solid reasons why some were "pissy" about divisive rhetoric.
Take care and have a great day.

Honestly, with all of her work in business and with charities I can't imagine that it couldn't help her to sound a bit more "natural". Languages are hard. (5,611 posts)about Melania, who has been in the US for nearly twenty years, yet still struggles with an extremely thick accent. Coulter goes after democratic immigrants who speak with accents all the time, accusing them of deliberately not polishing their English, being anti-American, using their accents for political points, etc etc. So I think people are finding it very ironic that the woman the Repubs are supporting (including Coulter herself) speaks with an extremely thick accent after twenty years of residency in the United States.

I think the Daily Show, Saturday night live, and Will Ferrell type takes on politicians have normalized things like this. There isn't much policy to take on when it comes to Trump.
After the way Trump has conducted himself, would someone from his side have any standing to complain?
It is the would you want to have drink at a bar with the candidate question: no. I don't want to drink with Trump.
