Sorry, but those attacks on Hillary last night may be uniting the GOP...at least those at the
convention. But they are also uniting Democrats and others outside the convention.

Or when Cruz helps destroy this "unity," which knowing his ego, he will. |

47. I guarantee you
no one at the DNC will be calling for Trump to be locked up, not one Hillary campaign VIP will call for his murder, and every night of the convention will not be devoted to hating him at the exclusion of every issue. The past two nights, the RNC has resembled nothing better than a "five minutes hate" from 1984; except, their hate sessions have lasted for hours. It's a frenzy of hate that is destructive and dangerous. So please stop with the false equivalency.

48. I accept your comment on the convention issue
But I stand by comment about responding to the phrase 'just make people who hate them hate them more' as describing a lot of what liberals do also. It's not false equivalency - I'm referring to that phrase, not to the convention extreme version of it.

4. But suppose they did?
One curious trait that leads Republicans to stumble is that they often cannot foresee the results of their own actions. Their inability to foresee results may be linked to the fact that they cannot see that they have this weakness.
Suppose someone were to ask a Republican "What would happen if Hillary were unable to continue her campaign? What would the Democrats do, then?" The obvious answer is that the Democrats would nominate Bernie Sanders. Who was running 14% ahead of Trump a month ago, when Hillary was running only 7% ahead of Trump. Would Repubs rather Trump run against Hillary or against Bernie? Question Republicans. It will do them good to think. |

7. Yes they would rather run against Bernie.
Bernie was never vetted, much less subjected to decades long attacks. They kept their powder dry about Bernie, because they desperately wanted to run against the "Socialist." Nuff said because the primary is over, but I felt a need to respond to your statement.

17. I'm afraid very much so.
How people on both sides can watch what's been done to Hillary for years and still will not understand that actions can be twisted into giant crimes and sins easily created out of nothing is beyond me.
But Dan de Lyons is absolutely right that the kind of people who jumped up chanting "lock her up!" again and again last night really have no idea just how repellent that behavior is to people of better character and judgment on both sides. |

27. That was my argument against Sanders
from the beginning. One advertisement where he is quoted as saying he'll raise taxes on every American will make his negatives soar with independents and Republicans.
And, that's just one issue. I was afraid we'd get another Dukakis - up double digits and then losing by double digits because one Willie Horton ad sent him into a tailspin. What's Trump got on Clinton? Benghazi!!!!!!! EMAILS!!!!!!!!!!! Monica Lewinsky!!!!!! |

25. Scary times. Deep breath. Although the gap between
them widens and narrows with the breeze, Hillary has been ahead by every measure for months. It'd take a political earthquake for him to win. Unfortunately Trump's first trial date is after the election, but perhaps the media will be talking about it before, and we can count on him to continue to demonstrate his literally pathologic incompetence.

40. Oh, definitely, 1SBM. But that was just a bunch of progressive
laws and programs dismantled. I'm thinking about the next, huge steps planned.
Koch's group is by far the most powerful dark money group, and those 30 years are investment for far, far more. Not all of the very wealthy would support Charles Koch's plan to dismantle the federal government almost entirely, leaving mainly only the military, and shrink most state governments to bare bones, but they'd be on board most of the way. For those who aren't already properly scared: That turning over of all federal lands to the states already in the 2016 GOP platform is definitely a major priority of this group, whose profiteering has been sadly blocked for years. SCOTUS decisions also eliminating the rest of the progressive laws on the books, such as labor laws, minimum wage, compulsory education, most compulsory taxes including for Social Security and Medicare, federal oversight of state elections, environmental controls, as well as most federal constraints on other state powers, and on and on and on would be churned as fast as they bring get the cases before the court. And so much more eventually, all in the name of personal freedom and a strong, healthy society but with an unstated goal of making sure "the people" are never powerful enough to get control again. |
