Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will announce Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate tomorrow, according to reports.
Kaine, 58, is a Harvard-trained attorney who is the former mayor of Richmond, Va. and the state's former lieutenant governor. He was elected governor of Virginia in 2005 and then as the 51st chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2009 to 2011. He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2012 to replace retiring incumbent Jim Webb.
Kaine serves on the Armed Services, Budget and Foreign Relations committees.

(53,093 posts)Without question. Her voting record and policy positions show as much. Now, she hasn't been hermetically sealed off from changes in America since the 1960s, which is why her liberalism includes the majority and not just a self-entitled minority looking to return to a past when they alone reaped the benefits of the capitalist empire.
More importantly, she has actually accomplished things for real people. Talk without accomplishment is meaningless. I've been talking to myself for fifty years. So what? Many of her are in the same position, only they place greater value on talk than improving the lives of actual people.
She went to bat for universal healthcare over 20 years ago, helped bright about health coverage for children through S-Chip. That is a real accomplishment. Some insist that doesn't matter because it wasn't single payer, as though those children's lives matter less than how health insurance is funded.
It goes on and on. The bottom line is what her critics say about her bears little relation to her actual record.

How Tim Kaine is signaling that hell be an asset with banking interests on the fundraising trail
Sounding another alarm for progressives wary of the Democratic establishments support for Wall Street, the man said to be leading the pack of potential Hillary Clinton running matesVirginia Sen. Tim Kainehas just this week sent a clear message to big banks: Hes in their corner.
Kaine, who is reportedly Bill Clintons favorite for the vice presidential slot, signed onto two letters on Monday pushing for financial deregulationletters that show the Clinton camp how Kaine could be an asset with banking interests on the fund raising trail, according to David Dayen at The Intercept on Wednesday.
And Democracy for America executive director Charles Chamberlain said in a statement Thursday: "Let's be really clear: It should be disqualifying for any potential Democratic vice presidential candidate to be part of a lobbyist-driven effort to help banks dodge consumer protection standards and regulations designed to prevent banks from destroying our economy.
Our presidential ticket cannot beat the billionaire bigot by simply being not-Donald Trump," he added. "To win in November, our ticket needs to have an unquestionably strong record in the fight against income inequality, one of the defining issues of the 2016 election."
The news should disqualify Kaine from the ticket, one prominent progressive group declared Thursday.
She can't win without the votes from Bernie's younger or newer to the process supporters and Kaine is a sign that she thinks she doesn't need them. As said above "Not Trump" isn't a slogan that will work for them.

(42,862 posts)... into this. Her decision will be based on who's qualified, and who she'll work well with. By default, no matter who she chooses, it will be the right choice ... because it's HER choice.
I'm looking forwarding to finding out who it is! It's very exciting!
If it's Warren, then the "Warren-or-Bust" crowd will be happy and will (hopefully) stop with their gloomy-gus posts. If it's not Warren, then they'll need to stop anyway.
Either way, no matter who the choice may be, we will have reached yet another milestone that emphasizes that the PRIMARY IS OVER.

(11,641 posts)Seriously. Too many main stream sources are making these statements for it too be a coincidence.
And it's not like it's a secret that Warren is telling everyone the game is rigged while Third Way members declare war on her:

So if you don't want to believe that Wall Street banks that routinely violate laws. rig markets, and bilk their customers would do such a thing by all means ignore all the articles that are reporting what these Wall Street donors are saying.
~Snip~
According to POLITICO, sources close to the Clinton campaign are warning the candidate that if she selects the all-female ticket, a popular notion among aging feminists and Bernie Sanders supporters, she risks alienating investment bankers and Wall Street financiers, who oppose some of Warrens core ideas, like breaking up big banks and nationalizing parts of the lending market.
~Snip~
Citigroup and Goldman Sachs consistently rank among Clintons top 10 givers, with JP Morgan Chase and Morgan Stanley often not far behind. According to the Wall Street Journal, Clinton has raised $4.2 million in total from Wall Street, and around $350,000 in March alone. If you take the financial-services industry as a whole, shes raised almost $30 million.
And because of Donald Trumps tax plan, which includes taxing certain long-term financial investments, some Wall Street donors even switched to Clinton when their favored Republican dropped out of the race. Clinton is now taking in over half of all Wall Street-affiliated donations.
Thats a lot to lose in return for choosing Warren, a fellow New Englander, hard-line progressive and divisive figure, as Vice President. Warren is one of Trumps favorite targets, particularly for her record as a Harvard diversity hire for her mostly non-existent Native American bloodline. And, its not likely Warren will win back that many of Bernies hardcore supporters...

(879 posts)1) This article links to the WSJ for the "reports" and the reports are "people close to Clinton think she'll pick him. He might be the pick, but not done yet.
2) The entire job of the VP in this campaign will be to get down in the mud so HRC doesn't have to. Keep HRC positive and let the VP respond to all of Trump's BS. And during the presidency, HRC is a policy wonk. Her opinion is what matters. His policy stances matter as much as Biden's have, which means not at all. Both HRC (and Obama) are intelligent and opinionated. The only time the VP's policies matter is when you have a lazy, no nothing like W in there.

(1,421 posts)Clinton was not my first pick, but I have been ferocious in my support when it became apparent that Sanders was out of the running. When she appeared to seriously consider progressives, I was heartened, hopeful. I will continue to support her election, but now my enthusiasm has taken a direct hit.
"Kaine signed two letters on Monday urging federal regulators to go easy on banks ― one to help big banks dodge risk management rules, and another to help small banks avoid consumer
protection standards."
"Kaine, by contrast, is setting himself up as a figure willing to do battle with the progressive wing of the party. He has championed the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal that both Sanders and Warren oppose, and he is now publicly siding with bank deregulation advocates at the height of Clintons veepstakes."

(1,421 posts)that rolled down my face. I am a 61-year old who has been a participatory, activist Democrat for nearly 50 years. I am an absolute Liberal. I have never said a bad thing on this site or any other about Hillary Clinton. I have a grip. If she does choose Kaine, she is moving to the center-right after proclaiming to be progressive. That is only going to help her lose, just like such behavior has made Democrats lose for years.
I had an honest reaction to a genuine disappointment. I do not weep often.
The Clinton campaign is saying the decision is not final. I can only hope that they are just putting the feelers out, but it appears they may be choosing to ignore the antipathy of the Progressive wing of the Democratic party. Based on your response, perhaps you do not count yourself among that group. I am sorry you felt the need to respond in such a hostile manner.
Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)Please take a break if Hillary picking Kaine, who's about as mainstream as a Democrat can get, makes you openly cry like that.
aintitfunny
(1,421 posts)He is not the VP candidate yet. That he is a mainstream Democrat does nothing to help her get elected, except perhaps bolstering Virginia. It could be a detriment and is such with Progressives.
It is noted that you did not respond pro or con to his aggressive support for bank deregulation or fast tracking the TPP. You only take issue with how I feel. Interesting.
