It is the kind of thing that voters hate.

When Mondale became VP the governor of Minnesota resigned and had the Lt. Governor appoint him to the seat. Two years later the GOP lost both Minnesota Senate seats and the governorship.

McAuliffe running for the seat wouldn't be quite as bad. But it would still be problematic IMO.

I hadn't even considered the possibility that he might do that until just now.

His picks are normally on point, his reasoning is less so since he started getting national attention. he just parrots talking points. He's still smart though.

Yeah, you're right. People aren't going to vote because of who the VP nominee is. They'll just say screw it. Let Trump win because Tim Kaine is on the ticket. PUHLEASE

and its progressive wing in exchange for an electoral advantage in a state that should go blue in any case.

That is not a good trade in my estimation. It is like the difference between "self-interest" and "enlighten self-interest."

I'm not part of all this hand wringing and demanding numerous ransoms to get the votes of a few spoiled brats.

My opinion.

out there organizing, fundraising, and volunteering in the campaign and get out the vote efforts with enthusiasm.

Those who think this selection won't have a high-cost are kidding themselves. It is unfortunate as this is an election we Democrats can afford to lose.
