Will 2008 be the last time a veteran is on the ticket for awhile?

Now that Kaine has been picked we are without a veteran on either ticket. Not only that there were very few veterans running on either side. No Democratic candidates were veterans and on the GOP side only Perry was. You would have to go back to 1932 to find the last time before 2012 where there were no veterans on either ticket. In part, WW2 explains some of this. WW2 gave us Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Bush 1. The fact is virtually no major political figures are veterans now except some Iraqi war veterans. It will be at least a couple of decades before those people can run credible races. Given that we still have troops deployed in active war zones it is sad that we don't have veterans among our political class.
