New questions surround Putin’s interest in Trump’s election

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/new-questions-surround-putins-interest-trumps-election

* The New York Times reports today, “[R]esearchers have concluded that the national committee was breached by two Russian intelligence agencies, which were the same attackers behind previous Russian cyberoperations at the White House, the State Department and the Joint Chiefs of Staff last year. And metadata from the released emails suggests that the documents passed through Russian computers….. Whether the thefts were ordered by Mr. Putin, or just carried out by apparatchiks who thought they might please him, is anyone’s guess.”

* The Washington Post reported overnight, “In the past 24 hours, cybersecurity experts have said that the email cache released by WikiLeaks on Friday appears to have been given to the anti-secrecy group by Russian intelligence.”

* The Washington Post also reported the other day that the Trump campaign, which generally took no interest in the Republican Party’s official platform, took special care to add language about U.S. policy towards Ukraine – a new position that contradicts GOP foreign-policy orthodoxy – that brings the platform in line with the policies of the Russian government.

* Noting Trump’s anti-NATO posture – another break with decades of Republican thought on foreign policy – The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, a center-right observer, noted last week, “Trump is making it clear that, as president, he would allow Russia to advance its hegemonic interests across Europe and the Middle East.”

* TPM’s Josh Marshall had a lengthy piece over the weekend, highlighting Trump’s financial ties to Russia.

A Trump president would work with Putin to start another cold war with Russian moving across eastern Europe again. Who benefits? The same people that Trump wants to help "build" our military back up - the military contractors and suppliers. The military-industrial complex that Dwight Eisenhower warned against.

Don't fall for it.

From the looks of it, some major media is not being fooled. I'm really shocked that there is ANY reporting on Trump's foreign connections. August could be really hot this election year!

DWS and the DNC? Completely irrelevant compared to Putin's efforts to get Trump elected. This story should be front and center in the US media. But of course, not.

The Putin-Trump link is a most terrifying development. I can't imagine a US president with financial ties to Russia and possibly Russian mobsters.

What the heck world are we living in?

this one, in particular, seems like a huge red flag:

* The Washington Post also reported the other day that the Trump campaign, which generally took no interest in the Republican Party’s official platform, took special care to add language about U.S. policy towards Ukraine – a new position that contradicts GOP foreign-policy orthodoxy – that brings the platform in line with the policies of the Russian government.

Trump didn't care about any platform issues, except to make sure a pro-Russia policy was included?

Russian government hackers penetrated DNC, stole opposition research on Trump

The DNC said that no financial, donor or personal information appears to have been accessed or taken, suggesting that the breach was traditional espionage, not the work of criminal hackers.

* While some have suggested that these questions lend credence to conspiracy theories, the Washington Post’s Anne Applebaum raised an important point: conspiracy theories tend to focus on allegations of secret misconduct; many of Trump’s ties to Putin are already out in the open.

Here's the link to Applebaum's piece https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/global-opinions/how-a-trump-presidency-could-destabilize-europe/2016/07/21/9ec38a20-4f75-11e6-a422-83ab49ed5e6a_story.html

The more interesting stuff is found in Trump's business dealings with Russian mob figures loyal to Putin, that he has some very shady advisors in his employ with direct connections to Putin and he all of the sudden wants to pillory NATO which has been valued by GOP and Dem president's alike for decades. His railing on the Chinese is also now in question.theres a lot that stinks here beyond emails.

But yes some are too myopic to understand what is at stake here.
