Sanders Supporters, I'm Sorry

I voted for Sanders when the primaries came to my state (actually the caucus in Utah) but I never had much passion for him. I liked his message but I felt fairly neutral on him. Being busy, I never paid much attention to his message. I had a fair understanding what he stood for but was fine with Hillary or Bernie. I see now why you love him but more importantly his message. I understand that almost none of you are blindly following him and that his message is more important than the man. I think a few of Sanders' supporters are misguided or angry at the wrong people but I see that almost all had good intentions by backing him. Tonight I see that he doesn't only have a great message but that he is a man of honor and integrity. I have made threads and posts that were anti-Sanders and that questions his motivations and his supporters in the past and for that I apologize. He's a great man and we are lucky that someone like him came along to influence our politics.

Maybe just hearing him maintain his message, even after endorsing Clinton and after he could have felt screwed by the DNC. Its clear where his priorities are and they aren't just with Bernie Sanders. I realize now how much he cares about the average person.

I have been a member of DU since 2002, and have been absolutely disgusted by the anti-Sanders bullshit. Senator Sanders is a man of honor and integrity, something very rare in American politics. His ONLY motivation for running for POTUS was to make a difference, to stand up for those that did not have a voice.

8. My views of Sanders weren't based on any attacks from the primaries

I honestly didn't pay much attention to the primaries until about May, so I can't speak for others but I think some of my anti-Sanders feeling were more of a "yeah right, this really isn't about you". Cynicism in other words. I always loved Obama but I think he was also somewhat honest about also being a politician and having to do politician things. With Sanders, I felt like he was trying to be some pious Senator that was just full of himself. When he kept pushing on, I thought he was just doing what politicians do, and didn't care much about the actual message. I'm not a fool, he is human and I know he isn't perfect or that he has zero ego, ever. But he is probably one of the most honest people to run for either major party in a long, long, long time.

I think the problem that some people have with Sanders is there have been a lot of presidential candidates that have come along claiming they care about us and not themselves but are clearly full of shit. Its difficult to actually see an honorable politician when they come along.

Politicians are so used to viewing the electorate as a giant thing to be manipulated that no matter what happens at the ballot, they usually can only focus on the Washington-based characters they perceive to be pulling the strings. Through this lens, the uprising among Democratic voters this year wasn't an organic expression of mass disgust, but wholly the fault of Bernie Sanders, who within the Beltway is viewed as an oddball amateur and radical who jumped the line.

Nobody saw his campaign as an honest effort to restore power to voters, because nobody in the capital even knows what that is. In the rules of palace intrigue, Sanders only made sense as a kind of self-centered huckster who made a failed play for power. And the narrative will be that with him out of the picture, the crisis is over. No person, no problem.

7. With Sanders, it is never about the man - it is about the message.

He has a changed the conversation and we will see how the Clinton campaign handles it.
All the gains Bernie has made in getting his message as part of the her 'platform' amazed me.

Perhaps it wasn't about the man but I'm sure somewhere along the line he said or did something that might have offended other democrats, its bound to happen but getting hung up on that is less important than the message.

10. Watching Sanders supporters reminded me of college

And I don't say that in a negative way. During the speech seeing the passion and emotion for Sanders. I'm not that far removed from college but that optimism and hope is something I don't see that much these days.

Maybe I should move back to my college town....sorry, thinking out loud.
