http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/leaked-emails-show-dnc-staffers-keeping-close-eye-on-tim-canovas-rise-8626585Update: Tim Canova says he will file an election complaint against the DNC over the email leaks, which he contends show Debbie Wasserman Schultz breaking election rules. "Our lawyers are preparing a complaint against Wasserman Schultz that we will file with the FEC for her wrongful use of DNC resources in her campaign against me, based on the WikiLeaks disclosures,"
--
Update 10:45 a.m.: It appears Debbie Wasserman Schultz personally asked staff to remove Tim Canova's name from a headline in a statement sent out after Bernie Sanders endorsed Canova.
Original post: The fallout from the trove of Democratic National Committee emails published by WikiLeaks has been swift. Bernie Sanders supporters have raged over his treatment by DNC staffers, and our own Debbie Wasserman Schultz has had to step down as the organization's head.
But the leak also shows that DNC staffers were watching closely as Sanders-fueled money and support rolled in for Tim Canova, Wasserman Schultz's upstart challenger in the August 30 Democratic primary.
Simply searching Canova's last name in WikiLeaks' file turns up 80 messages, though many emails stemmed from the same chain. DNC staffers repeatedly flagged positive news about the Canova campaign and shared it among themselves. On May 11, DNC staffers shared news that Canova had raised more than $1 million.

(3,335 posts)his support behind Canova was to help him defeat her, and he even announced it to the world, claiming he was going to raise money for him to help defeat her. So one side can conspire openly against the other but the other side who happens to work for the DNC cannot do anything that even remotely smacks of not being objective, even when the opposing candidate with the support of an entire campaign are coming gunning for her. I hope she fights it, and make them prove their case. Give em hell Debbie.

(12,233 posts)any progressive Democratic leaders; even for dog catcher.
It supremely pisses me off that President Obama has had to come in and push a message for Patrick Murphy. Just another Republican, that took Daddy's money and bought himself a position in the Democratic Party. Why? Because polling is close with Alan Grayson. Patrick Murphy won't even debate Grayson.
The Democratic Party is way too entrenched with wealthy corporations and wealthy donors. And the FL Democratic Party is partisan extreme. (It may be why Debbie ran the National party as she did?!?! She's had all her training inside the FL party).
I really hope the Bernie-progressive organizations that spring up from his run will be able to help and hold progressive candidates up against the corporate wing of the party. And I'm extremely unhappy with President Obama coming in and choosing to campaign for a democratic senate choice before the primary. It would have been nice to see a debate occur. It would be nice for the party to act even handed with candidates that are running for elections in primaries and ONLY come in after the primary selection has been chosen by the people.
So many good, feet on the ground, GOTV, progressive people have left the party in FL! Many have disaffected to Green or Indie because of FL Party elites. Seriously, if there isn't really that much of a difference between the Republican pro-business candidate and a Democratic pro-business candidate, what's the point of pushing for the Democratic candidate?
The idea that this country can continue to operate as business as usual, leaving millions of people struggling to survive, no real leadership on the environment (which is a crisis), and choosing $ over people constantly, we are going to have more extreme reactions to those who are "in charge". More police shootings and I'm afraid even political assassinations of govt leaders that people can effectively get to (city council and legislative branches of government).
Think about this, there is still a major push by wealthy people and energy companies to build new nuclear power plants. A tune of billions of dollars in tax monies into the investment. FL legislation across the board allowing energy companies (specifically Progress Energy, now changing company name to Duke Energy to probably avoid law suit) agreeing to allow the energy company to increase rate % on customers to pre-pay for future energies provided by nuclear power plants. They collected millions of dollars for plants that haven't been approved for building since the 70's. On top of that, the cost of creating a solar power plant just as effective at providing energy cost would be $500 million. The nuclear power plant, $23 billion. Most of that money coming from the tax payers. And then what? Nuclear Power heats water into steam to provide electricity. This is FL, temperatures for the cooling pools of water in the summer are a problem.. Not to mention issues with Hurricane's, sink holes and tornados... Why would anyone entertain the incredibly dumb idea of building new power plants, the environmental damage to surrounding watersheds, the extreme cost, and the inability to this day to dispose of nuclear "trash"?!
Anyway, the Dem party needs a shake up. It needs to be the people's party.. Not just another tool for the wealthy elites.

(12,233 posts)make you chose a different candidate. His divorce was very nasty and way too public. And I'm not sure he is or is not a "wife beater"? The divorce was not amicable and nastiness was thrown around by both husband and wife. I feel bad for the children.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Trumpian"? His policy positions are progressive. And he's rated #1 in effectiveness in congress for passing legislation. He is loud. He's boisterous. He grates on Republicans nerves. Now, the Democratic Party enjoyed his Bush bashing days and didn't lift a hand when his congressional seat was targeted by Tea Party and Koch Bro's smear campaign. Two years later, he won it back, no thanks to the FL or National Democratic Party. Even his "ethics" complaint places on him by the House Dems has gone no where. No hearings, no real investigation, just an ethics complaint filing to make him look bad for a Senate bid.
Personally, I'll vote for the Progressive voice who actually had the audacity to take on the Bush Admin as a lawyer and win cases for his clients. The Democratic establishment doesn't like him because he's atypical for a progressive candidate. He has enough wealth that he doesn't have to cow tow to the party. He can generate his own supporters when he needs to. And he will call out Dems who are behaving badly and show their complacent butts for who they really are, they aren't weak and spineless, many are bought off to pass pro- donor legislation.
How effective is it to gain the House, the Senate, and the White House, have an economy in free fall, and have a mandate to change direction for the American people who believed rhetoric of Hope and Change to foster in a New Deal/ Green Revolution? 8yrs later and look at President Obama's choices. Look at the divisiveness in the parties and across America. We don't need more TPP, we need to be working with other countries to create Fair Trade and to be fostering in a plan to address climate change as if we were being attacked by space aliens (like those in the Independent Day movie).
We desperately need a progressive swing of the pendulum in our political landscape, yet we are in a real, awful crossroads of electing facism, openly and unapologetically checked by the Republican Party. The Democratic Party is barely containing the crazy of Trump. Polling is awful.
Independents, which now holds more people than either party, have been mostly left out of the decision factor of the primaries... Right or wrong of them to choose no brand over a party brand, they are left with essentially 2 choices on Election Day. Their other option, besides voting 3rd party, is to sit out the voting process altogether... Again, right or wrong in their choice to be Independent and follow no party affiliation, they are the group that holds 46% of the voters. They are the group that hold the power in their proverbial hands.
If the left wing side of the Independents do not come out to vote, it leaves the rightwing side of the Independents choosing the election. Many of those people don't like the Democratic Party at all and will never vote that way; they left in protest of the Bush Co crime regime. Hopefully, most of them will take their vote to Gary Johnson and leave Trump's 40% or lower.
I really hope Trump effects their coat tails and that Dems can win back the Senate (to at least confirm a Supreme Court nominee), and effect a chunk of their House members. What I'm afraid of, is a mid-term Republican control of congress and how many "adult give-a-ways" to corporate demands will occur in order to pass legislation? Or will they treat Clinton like they have Obama and refuse to pass anything but ceremonial legislation? A divided legislative and executive branch has all the makings of fostering in very pro-corporate desires. Like placing SS on Wall St (or even reducing payouts), making more public schools into privatized slush funds, pro-banking de-regulations, more tax cuts for the wealthy, a refusal to address immigration reform, health care needs, wealth inequality, and the largest crisis the world is facing with climate change.

No matter how much manufactured outrage certain useful idiots want to put behind it, there is essentially nothing revealed that hasn't been occurring on the local/state/national level as long as we've been alive... I just hope you reserve a bit of your outrage if it ever comes out that there might a been a bit of collusion between certain elements of Bernie's camp and Greenwald/Assange. I seriously do hope you show a similar level of outrage.
