(8,421 posts)why aren't journalists calling him out? Like insulting minorities, mocking the disabled, calling on Russia for help, etc. (I could go on).
Will they now, now that the general election is on?

(56,828 posts)If they anger The Donald, they lose access. Heck, wasn't Trump caught on tape asking Morning Joe & Mika to not ask him any tough questions?
Now, is Trump going to be able to ask the leaders of China or Saudi Arabia to not ask him any tough questions? While I'm not a huge fan of Hillary Clinton, she's been getting hammered with tough questions for 25 years now.

(34,402 posts)party is more important than saving our republic. The media has a lot to answer for--especially since 2001. They really became lapdogs after Bush/Cheney took power. They turned Tim Russert into a shill for the Iraq War. Exposing Watergate would be impossible today--there would be a brief mention of a break-in, but it would be gone by the beginning of the next news cycle, never to be mentioned again except by bloggers that the mainstream media will ignore. It's pathetic, it's wrong, and utter unconscionable.

(810 posts)The candidates should be worried about having access to the media, not the other way around.
Journalists, and the media in general, should say "Look, if you'll tell the truth we'll talk to you. Until then, sorry - we're not spreading your lies".
But that doesn't fly with the great, high muckety-mucks that run the conglomerates. They need a horse race to generate advertising dollars.
The M$M sucks!

(15,882 posts)don't get is why, after the Supreme Court said this is all entertainment, that even if it is labeled news you can spout bald faced lies and be fully within your rights, anyone expects anything of tv "journalists".
That "tv journalists" all didn't figure out some new way to be taken seriously right then and there was interesting. But it didn't change how the viewers saw them. Not one bit. The viewers were told they were being lied to, and just made more popcorn.
That is why they are not calling him out. They have nothing else to offer, and most don't care.
We could do a sit-in at the networks, but I can't think of why anyone would want to put forth the effort. Easier to find a new hobby.

I saw what you did there, though. The "Meat-head" got to the meat of the matter!
Here's to Rob Reiner getting into more meat in this campaign!

(463 posts)You could spend 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, calling out Trump on his lies, and it would do no good. The man is a pathological liar. I hesitate in calling him a man. What kind of man does that?

(7,814 posts)like the only responsible party in our democracy and trying to solve problems. We've needed two competent, effective parties...but have had only one.
Now....I can't believe we have to battle authority-conditioned, entertainment-starved, loud-and-wrong-sheep goprs to literally defend our country and the world against their candidate. What a low point, what a huge waste of time and resources, what a sad test of public discourse, what a huge RISK, what a condemnation of the republicans this SHOULD be. We should be angry....and the GOP should be receiving at LEAST as much astonishment, outrage, and ridicule as Trump is individually.
And Reiner is right...media loves the battle. Dems should be ridiculing msm and the gop for putting the rest of the country in this position.

Called out reporters for not bearing down harder on Donald Trump. No freakin' KIDDING!
It's been sheer agony for me to watch the "journalistic" malpractice on wide display.
Andrea Mitchell, for example.
Trump had just held his news conference where all this stuff about his possible connections to Russia came up (shit, they even asked him about it - color me shocked!), And what did she lead with at top-of-the-hour? Terry McAuliffe running his mouth off that she obviously felt was damaging to Hillary. ANYTHING to lead with dumping on Hillary. When, franky, I'm pleasantly surprised to see the Russian thing is starting to grow legs. But HER lead was whatever might reflect poorly on Hillary.
I think I tweeted about four or five times, on her page with criticism about this, questioning her VERY clear anti-Hillary bias.
https://twitter.com/mitchellreports
My last tweet was about how I was so fed up with her anti-Hillary bias that I'm switching to CNN. Which I then did - for the rest of Andrea Mitchell's hour. Think I'll be making a habit of that. I wasn't exaggerating. I'm totally fed up with her "reporting." If she hates Hillary that much, she really should be working at Pox.
