What is he guilty of?

I get that you take it personally and want to put a face to your anger but you've got the wrong face.

Unless he has God powers I don't see how you can expect him to control every single human being.

I agree they're jerks. They need to get over it, shut up or go home.

But that isn't Bernie's fault. This is the type of post that just leads to more anger and divisiveness. Sure--blame the idiots. Don't blame the hero to many REAL lifelong Democrats and some Independents(voters Hillary will need in the general election).

Soon, they will latch onto Jill Stein or whoever---OR, get over their anger and vote against Trump in November.

That's what has to happen: looking ahead. That's what matters now.

Or we can play the primary over and over until November and see how that works.

over the course of the campaign. No other candidate is responsible. Bernie himself knows it to be true. Otherwise he wouldn't have messaged his delegates to behave.

Well, they're not behaving. They're not doing him and the convention the professional courtesy he requested. Perhaps he needs to do a little more, like get out there every day it continues and forcefully and unequivocally say that this behavior is unacceptable and that he disowns any Sanders delegate who behaves in such a manner. He did it during the campaign when he said he didn't want the votes of people who were behaving violently. He should call for them to lose their credentials. He could call for a meeting of all his delegates and read them the riot act.

This is all within his power to do and well within what should be expected of him. They aren't going to listen to anyone else. They may not listen to Bernie at this point. But he needs to make EVERY effort to shut these people down.

Everybody knows these assholes are Sanders delegates. He credentialed them, and he can uncredential them. Why has he not called for them to be removed?

Thu Jul 28, 2016, 04:16 AM
Jul 2016

I am just curious.

Would you have preferred Bernie never got into the Democratic primary and instead ran as an Independent?

Given choice of Bernie running within the party(and yes--bringing some jerks along) or just letting Hillary have a clear runway until the general election where she would have faced him and Trump and Stein and Johnson?

Would that second option have been your choice as the price for a quiet convention?

However, we both know he would have been dismissed by the media if he had run as a independent. We both know that he needed the resources of the Dem party to get this far. If you don't recognize this your living in a fantasy land. IMO he started his unity message too late, after he stoked the fire by implying he was cheated. Maybe his effort to bring unity should be as equal to his effort to win the primary.

48. Disagree

Jul 2016

How did they help him?

He raised his own funds. His message could have been delivered as a Democrat OR Independent. If anything, we know they were NOT trying to help him. As for fighting to the end--his supporters would have demanded nothing less. And frankly, would they have really offered him any seats at the platform committee if he HAD bowed out early?

It's impossible to say how he would have done but I'm pretty sure the party prefers he not be in the race now. It could only have helped Trump.

The convention will be forgotten in a month.

It's her and Trump at that point.

I will never see how Bernie can be blamed for anything beyond bringing some young people into the party and energizing that. It's up to Hillary to capture that energy and ride it to victory.

I also realize some people will blame him for everything.

But if Hillary can't pull this off it is because she can't motivate enough people to vote for her. That isn't Bernie fault. He's trying for her. That's all anyone can ask.

You know the stuff that his staffers hacked from Clinton. The information that he went to court for when he sued the DNC (his databases) which he said he had to do because his campaign was crippled without it. He also would have gotten no media attention.

about the inappropriateness and ineffectiveness of shouting down the president when millions of Americans are watching. It's terrible optics in an election in which we really have to have our shit together. Whether the hecklers are right or wrong is irrelevant.

Barack Obama has paid his dues, and this is a history-making convention. Dissent on TPP is good. Inhibiting someone's ability to give a speech so you can voice that is unacceptable.

That's not what Democrats do either. It's one thing to hold up a sign. It's another to attempt to shut down a person's ability to speak by raucous yelling and disruption. When you do that, you're betraying the very principle of free speech that you claim for yourself. There are many ways to protest, but disallowing a speaker to be heard is never one of them.

Additional anger comes from knowing that each one of these outbursts gives aid and succor to Donald Trump.

Booing and interrupting is not a way to win hearts and minds for your cause. Believe me, it actually drives people away from wanting to be associated with it. No one wants to be on the side of bullies. There are smart ways to draw adherents to your cause, and then there are childish, selfish tantrums.

This election is too serious to mess with.

Overall the Bernie delegates were respectful to the president, thankfully. Other than the Panetta incident I didn't hear a lot of protesting last night.
