what is patriotism?

I prefer the "looking out for the good of everyone" kind of patriotism as opposed to the Republican "We will kick your ass" version. Be aware of what one might think we are "reclaiming" from the GOP, and who gets to define what patriotism is.

What is a country anyway? Is it just a place, or the people who live there? Someone said that it was the virtue of the viscous. I think it was Sean Connery in that movie, The Rock.

oops - I mean't vicious...

That's not to say that you're not allowed to love your government, or people in government, but you put your fellow citizen ahead if it.

I think it has taken a militaristic tone with the Republicans, but I think it is more about all of the people here, rich, poor, black, brown, white, straight and gay. If you want the most for everyone you are patriotic.

Love thy neighbor as thyself, essentially. Look out for the poor and downtrodden. Value the contribution of EVERYONE.

one can't be a patriot while hating vast swaths of the population because of who they love, how they worship, or who their ancestors were.
