Convention is over so lets talk local races

List the most important local/state races in your state and why they are important.

In North Carolina there are the following:

NC Supreme Court Edmunds (R Inc) vs Morgan (D). this race is officially non partisan but de facto partisan. At stake is control of the NC Supreme Court and our only real chance to fix the gerrymander that the legislature drew of the General Assembly.

Governor McCrory (R Inc) vs Cooper (D) This race is polling nearly even with maybe a tiny advantage to Cooper. Cooper is doing way better in fundraising though and cash on hand.

NC General Assembly current House 74/45/1 Senate 34/16. Needed to override veto is 3/5 which is 72 in the House and 30 in the Senate. Thus to undo the veto proof majority we need 3 to 4 house seats (probably 3 as the independent used to be a dem) or 5 senate seats. Under this gerrymander we haven't a pope prayer of getting a majority in either house.

the Democratic incumbents are certain to be re-elected. However, there is another congressional district in my state (MN
CD-2) that has been held by a Republican for some time, but he is not running again, so the seat is open. It's a close-margin district and there's a pretty fair chance that the Democrat will win if there is a good turnout. So, that's my focus for November, once our primary is over.

Due to lower turnout in mid-term elections, the house here has a habit of going slightly GOP in those mid-terms. We're working on getting better turnout. But, in presidential election years, as in 2012, it flips back. The DFL party is working on that problem, so I'm hoping that doesn't happen again in 2018.
