Did Trump just say that we have a base in Saudi Arabia?

In a throwaway line, he said that "we pay rent for our base to Saudi Arabia".

The last base in Saudi Arabia was closed in 2003. At least that's the official story. Unless he was misquoted, it looks like he was speaking in the present tense. Or maybe he was just being ignorant and stupid, which is a major possibility.

Or, maybe he just recently got his first national security briefing, and promptly blabbed about a secret military base in Saudi Arabia that people are not supposed to know about.

This guy is a literal know-nothing about such things, and a lifelong care-nothing.

I don't know what this is about, reportedly our "main base" in SA closed in 2003, but it's no more Trump's idea than the pro-Russia Ukraine plank in the Republican platform is.

Pure speculation, but it's possible our government fed this stuff to him. They could be building a case for denying him the same national security briefings his opponent gets.
