-snip-
The Hill talked to three well-connected groups in Washington about Clinton's Supreme Court options should she win the White House. None would go on the record, citing the sensitivities surrounding the issue.
But theres broad agreement about who Clinton would be most likely to consider, not only for the vacancy already on the court, but also the additional ones that could open up over the next four years if liberals like Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Justice Anthony Kennedy were to retire.

Topping the list, insiders say, is Garland. Other top contenders for a Clinton appointment would be Sri Srinivasan, a judge on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and Jane Kelly, a judge on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Obama White House reportedly considered both judges this year before the president nominated Garland.

Paul Watford, an African American judge on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is also being mentioned as a potential Clinton nominee, along with Jacqueline Nguyen, a Vietnamese-American judge on the same court.

(14,732 posts)Staggeringly intelligent, eminently fair, extremely well qualified. I hope she puts him on the Court right after Garland.

(11,605 posts)I hope not. I can appreciate why Obama picked him under the circumstances, but if Hillary wins the Repukes will have not reason to block her nominee (since they said "let the voters decide" , so I would like to see her pick someone more liberal.

(1,693 posts)that whatever 'moderate' tendencies he had, it's long gone. He'll probably end up being most the liberal justice on the Court after the GOP treated him so horribly.

(11,605 posts)Although I don't know that they have treated him so horribly. They have held up the nomination but have not really attacked him personally or even professionally.
He might also decide he doesn't want to go through it again.

(15,429 posts)If the Repugnants control the Senate, ZERO court nominees at any level. Count on that.
If the Dems take back the Senate, the filibuster on SCOTUS nominees is dead. Count on that, too.

(24,764 posts)We never had an Asian justice on the SCOTUS.
I'm especially impressed with Goodwin Liu, who made it his life work to fight for equal rights.

(4,787 posts)He seems to have had some kind of epiphany in the social justice cases as of late. In the last two sittings, his vote was the deciding factor in the marriage equality case, the Texas abortion regs reversal and Fischer, the affirmative action case. He also had joined Roberts in effectively upholding the ACA in its second major challenge, which he had not done the year before. And with only 8 justices, if he wants, he effectively can prevent them from taking on new conservative challenges to these issues, because they need 4 justices to accept a case.
The article probably reflects those hurt feelings. Fischer completely shocked them, and they thought there was a chance that he'd uphold the abortion regs case.
