2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI am tired of the media spewing that the Democratic Convention looks like how the republicans
usually run their Convention.
Typical right wing BS that the media spews. Democrats aren't patriotic, President Obama isn't an American, Democrats are always negative, etc. etc. etc.
Sorry media, Democrats are loyal Americans, and who are positive by fighting for the little guy, and the right wing myth they have been pushing for decades is finally coming to and end

(42,862 posts)US news over-simplifies, leaves out details, and talks DOWN to the viewer. It's hype and hysteria OVER thoughtful content and analysis. It's binary ... black and white news ... no gradations, no shades, no color. It lacks sharpness and clarity. It's compressed news to fit inside a tweet. Lazy reporting.

(58,724 posts)I know we have had a quarrel or two, but only as to the method of attaining a goal. There was no argument about the goal. As president, I will establish a liaison with the 50 governors to encourage them to eliminate, where it exists, discrimination against women. I will monitor federal laws to insure their implementation and to add statutes if they are needed.
More than anything else, I want my candidacy to unify our country; to renew the American spirit and sense of purpose. I want to carry our message to every American, regardless of party affiliation, who is a member of this community of shared values.
That's Reagan from 1980. He also quoted FDR.

(1,242 posts)between Reagan and Trump campaign ( meaning the operatives )
"Despite his Yankee stock, Manafort ran Reagans Southern operation, the racially tinged appeal that infamously began in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the hamlet where civil rights activists were murdered in 1964. The success of the 1980 campaign gave Stone and Manafort cachet. More important, they helped run Reagans transition to power. They stocked the administration, distributing jobs across the agencies and accumulating owed favors that would provide the basis for their new lobbying business. They opened their doors in 1981."
Roger Stone name is listed in article also
"
The genesis of Donald Trumps relationship with Paul Manafort begins with Roy Cohn. That Roy Cohn: Joe McCarthys heavy-lidded henchman, lawyer to the Genovese family. During the 70s, Trump and his father hired Cohn as their lawyer to defend the family against a housing discrimination suit. (Cohn accused the Feds of using Gestapo-like tactics.) But Cohn and Trump became genuine pals, lunching at the Four Seasons and clubbing together at Studio 54. It was Roy Cohn who introduced Stone and Manafort to Trump.
During those disco years, Stone and Manafort were tethered together. They were both kids from Connecticut, attending colleges in Washington, though they couldnt have been more different. Stone loved attention and garnered it with theatrical flair. He was a bad boy, soi-disant. As a student at George Washington University, Stone moonlighted for the Nixon campaign "

(1,214 posts)I don't think of media as right-wing, but more as lazy journalist. If they just allow astroturf perceptions (i.e. Democrats aren't patriotic) to go unchallenged, they won't be accused of biased journalism. Of course their still accused, but by giving republican propaganda a pass, they can say they listen to both sides.
