What the hell must it be like inside Trump's head?

His narcissism is breathtaking, and for most normal people, pretty incomprehensible. Everybody likes the occasional ego stroke - recognition for doing something well, a pat on the back from someone they respect, the feeling of being successful in some way. We also feel kind of bad if we're criticized or fail at something. But somehow we all muddle along and enjoy whatever success and recognition comes our way, glad to win the blue ribbon for the best pie at the county fair, or get elected to the city council, or graduate from college with honors, and we don't lose sleep over not being the best or the richest or the most famous. We don't need the constant adulation of others to be happy.

However, for an extreme narcissist like Trump, no matter how much success, money and fame he attains it's never enough. He can't stand it if he isn't constantly recognized as being the very best at everything, and he flies into a rage if his "superiority" is questioned. He can never just relax and enjoy what he has. How does somebody get to be like that? What kind of weird childhood did he have (not all rich people turn into vicious narcissists)? What must it be like to feel compelled all the time to need more and more affirmation that you're the smartest, best, most wonderful person to have ever lived?

I doubt Trump is even slightly introspective or self- aware, but somewhere in the dark recesses of his subconscious he must be a sad, frightened mess. I guess I should feel sorry for him if that's the case - there is a principle in Buddhism, for example, that one should feel compassion for all living beings - but the guy is just a psychological black hole. I don't know how anyone gets to be that way but he sure as hell can't be allowed anywhere near the nuclear launch codes.

This is hands down one of the most f*cked up "family portraits" I've ever seen.

He'll probably wind up an alcoholic or a drug addict or a serial killer.
