I absolutely love this diary on Daily Kos today: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/07/1158293/-Not-breaking-War-on-Women-not-good-strategy-for-wooing-Lady-Americans-actually
Spot on! I had an argument with one of my conservative "Bubba" male friends today. Being utterly pissed over Obama's victory, he was just outright exasperated over the fact that a) I didn't vote for Mittens (as if he doesn't know me?); and b) that I took the "abortion, birth control, rape thing" so seriously that it would even factor into my decision to "send America into another four years of Obummer hell" (his words verbatim).
Ultra conservative Republican men are just the dumbest of the breed. I won't disown my friend as he is only crappy in the sense of politics (he's actually a nice guy otherwise, who certainly would never harm a woman). But I was speechless that he'd think women didn't hear those dog whistles throughout the campaign. We aren't stupid and we do know that if we lose the rights over our sexuality via limitation of birth control, subjectivity of rape and denied abortions, then we lose control over our lives. But those f'kn Republican men will just keep shoving their bibles on up our vaginas every chance they get. Idiots.

there was an excellent reply another woman made to a man that said the same. no man would really say that shit to me, lol. or none that know me. but, i find it interesting you are the second one i have heard it from. must be a rw talking point.

(658 posts)I was being incredibly sarcastic with my post title. I don't condone women being called sluts either and apologize if it offended.
As for it being a RW talking point - those creeps believe it and whether they'll admit it to you or not, they view women as sluts, homemakers and baby makers, not much more.

(110,159 posts)in reality i think it is more a male issue, than a party issue. they simply cannot understand or grasp why women have such an issue.
of course
they are not experiencing any of the degradation or subjugation, so the reality is, they are clueless.
not a party issue. except the rw'ers are addressing it thru laws that effect us.

(2,781 posts)couldn't be friends with an idiot like that, regardless of whether he's a 'nice guy otherwise'.

(658 posts)...I've thought of having nothing to do with him. But I've known him awhile and this election really brought out the RW in him. We weren't close in 2008 so I don't think I ever realized his political leanings. He isn't pro-life, he just doesn't care about that issue and thinks it's silly that we women believe the government would ever overturn RvsW. He's clueless basically.

(2,781 posts)'silly' idea that 'we' want to take their guns away ... in other words, I think we have to be ever-vigilant when it comes to RvW ... of course, it helps a LOT that Obama was just re-elected re: the Supreme Court.
I don't *want* to be intolerant of others ... but it's just too stressful for me to deal with 'them' on top of my everyday stresses. The only ones I'll talk to on the other side are some of my own relatives, and sometimes that's awkward. :^)

(145 posts)I just can't believe that ANYONE would vote for Mitt Romney, or any extreme right wing nut jobs running a campaign this election.
The voices heard this election were very loud. This country is getting interesting. Always been a great place to live, but it's really getting interesting. I've got a few more years left. I think I'm going to enjoy the hell out of them.
I'm proud to be American today. Very proud as a matter of fact.
