2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat would you like to see passed as a result of Obama's win?
For me, I feel Obama is the first President in our lifetime that has proven an overwhelming commitment to the rights of women and can mobilize the ground game in the states to pass the ERA.

(449 posts)I am pretty sure Obama is in bed with big Pharma but it would be great to come down on the FDA for its role in granting a free pass to Pharma to market and sell whatever it wishes with only minimal financial consequences for the sale of dangerous drugs to the public. Jail Pharma execs and the game will change.

(8,217 posts)In truth, all I really care about now is the Supreme Court possibilities.
ACA needs improvement, but my mind is towards expansion, not limitation.
Tax code, I don't see happening. I would just be happy for it to go back to Clinton levels, then work towards cutting taxes on those making less than 500K, yes, 500K not 250.
I'd be happy with infrastructure spending, and dialing back our military operations.
Defense spending, to me needs a good looking at. I agree that through military grants, technological improvements happen. However, I feel like they need a better means of compensation for those investments.
I think, I'd rather go for the small needed things, rather than something big, because the cumulative effect of small things if dealt with synergies would create wonders.
For example:
Invest in improving the power grid. -More efficient power sharing, especially if the grid allow buildings and other things to have solar panels or means to create their own energy which can be put in to the system.
Invest in sustainable energies, green technology. -With a better power grid, it would allow these sources of energy to have a wider reach.
Invest in science and engineering programs which students can take, in exchange for 4-8 years of working for the government towards specific projects. -This should also improve that system as a whole.
I am doing that tongue in cheek, but I think you get my drift.
Basically, I am not advocating for any new signature program or legislation. Just a bunch of small things that when taken as a whole, would do a lot of good. The not-so-sexy/sensational things that may do a lot of good.
I must say, since 2010, there has been a significant dumbing down of Congress. Where, they can't seem to grasp larger concepts, so it may be best to piece meal things at times. Still, I would not put it past them to be obstructionist for the sake of doing so. Since this President has taken their ideas and proposed them, basically giving what they want from before, the problem is, as long as Obama is for it, they are immediately against it. That, should not stand.
