John Kerry DID responded to the smear during a speech before firefighters.
And said if Bush really wanted to talk about their military experiences he wad waiting for him

Yet the MEDIA did ignored his response.
And also DNC heads , who at the time were less worry of a Kerry/Edwards loss than a prospective HRC victory in 2008, did ,say ,minimal service to counter the smears.
