Now Four-Star General Barry McCaffrey has come out against Trump

And the hits just keep on coming, so add another voice to all those experts and respected VIPs who are publicly repudiating Trump.

Donald Trump is an ‘abusive braggart’ unfit to lead our Armed Forces

By Barry R. McCaffrey
Special to The Times

...

Trump’s cruel cultural jab at Ghazala Kahn as a grieving Gold Star mother is simply the final straw. In my judgment, Trump, if elected, would provoke a political and constitutional crisis within a year. He has called for the illegal torture of enemy detainees. He has called for the deliberate targeting and murder of civilians as retribution. He has questioned whether the U.S. should actually fulfill our defense obligations under the NATO pact. These NATO obligations are a U.S. Senate-ratified treaty that Trump should know is the highest law of the land.

Further, Trump has implied that the U.S. should encourage the proliferation of nuclear weapons — allies like Japan and South Korea were urged to become nuclear powers. He has praised Saddam Hussein as an effective anti-terrorist fighter. Hussein was a mass murderer who targeted his own people with an inhumane vengeance to include employing chemical weapons.
...

Trump sounds like a 12-year-old — a willful and abusive braggart. He is remarkably ignorant and uneducated about the world that we face and the means we may use to defend ourselves.

I served in the Armed Forces for 32 years. At retirement, I was a four-star joint-theater commander. In my considered judgment, Trump is unqualified to be the president of the United States and fulfill the role of commander in chief of the 2.2 million men and women of the Armed Forces.

Okay, New York Military Academy is not the same as West Point, except in Donald's mind. His parents sent him to military school because of the behavior problems he had at 13 years old. That explains why he has no behavior problems now. Great job, NYMA! By the way, NYMA went bankrupt last year. (How very Donald of them.)

And Donald didn't actually earn that Purple Heart. Some fan just gave it to him, presumably for Trump's successful battle against STDs during the VietNam war. But Donald says he got a better military education than a lot of our professional military officers. And it is completely untrue that he gets most of his knowledge of our military from the Beetle Bailey comic strips. That is a total falsehood that I hope gets spread far and wide.

And you read it on the internet so it must be true.

when the last administration tortured, renditioned and targeted for murder. While I applaud his current stance, climbing onto a bandwagon is easy. Standing up for what is right when you are the only one standing...not so much.

Can the active duty people speak out, or are they prohibited from voicing their expert opinions? Even so, there must be hundreds of retired high ranking military who must have an opinion on how Trump would be a national threat.

Yes, the shrub pulled some deeply unconstitutional stunts. Yes, the shrub angered many of our allies, especially over the Iraq invasion.

However, he maintained at least some semblance of diplomacy. He didn't go telling our NATO allies that we would not defend them if they didn't pay up. Hell, he wanted to deploy a missile shield to (allegedly) protect some of the very same NATO allies that opposed the Iraq invasion, though that ended up getting handled more by diplomacy than escalation with Russia.

Meanwhile, Trump is openly saying that our allies need to either pay up or defend themselves without much if any of our help. He's advocating for the assassination of DOMESTIC political opponents, just a step short of ordering them really. I never thought I would see the possibility of a US president worse than W, but where W went an inch, Trump is doing a mile run of batsh!t crazy.
