Florida Congresswoman Plans to Write in Jeb Bush for President

By BENJAMIN SIEGEL - Aug 9, 2016, 9:29 PM ET

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., is planning to vote for a Republican for president in November -- but it won't be Donald Trump.

"I think I'll write in the name Jeb Bush," she said in a meeting with the Miami Herald editorial board Tuesday.

"A candidate should espouse optimism."

The Florida Republican, who has criticized Trump's campaign, had previously endorsed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's campaign, along with Sen. Marco Rubio.

Split the erstwhile Republican vote can only mean a better victory for Hillary.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen will be the longest-tenured member of Congress—she was first elected to the U.S. House in 1988; Mikulski, the senior U.S. senator from Maryland, was first elected in 1986.

Ros-Lehtinen represents a Florida area around Miami. She is of the more moderate breed of the Republican Party.
