Saw this on another website, wow !!!

I know this is not the place for serious discussion...but I'm going to vent anyway. When I was in law school, as a Republican I was probably out numbered 85-15%...so I know how it feels to be frustrated being in the minority politically. But as much as I disagreed with my liberal classmates, I could at least rationalize and respect their positions. While I have never voted for a Democrat, I was always a bit disgusted by the ignorant, racist, anti-intellectual faction of the Republican party. I always tried to rationalize it, however, by saying to myself: (1) we need their votes, and (2) the Democrats have their own faction of worthless, disgusting people. To now see that the faction (that I always believed was a minority) has taken over the Republican party is both terrifying and disheartening. The Democrats now get to point to Trump and his supporters and say "see, we told you the Republicans were a bunch of ignorant, racist rednecks." I used to shake my head at the assertion that much of the GOP's opposition to Obama was based on race...but now I don't get to take that high ground anymore. I could go on for hours about all of the vile and disgusting things that Trump has done / said, but I think it can be boiled down to this. Donald Trump is the Alex Jones candidate. The same guy who believes 9/11 was an inside job. The same guy who believes that Sandy Hook was a hoax perpetrated by the government to abolish the Second Amendment. The same guy...oh forget it, I could go on all day. This, in a nutshell, is the Donald Trump supporter. A racist, anti-intellectual conspiracy theorist. I now have to sit quietly while many of my friends (who I used to think were halfway decent people) send memes and "stories" about Hillary's impending death, among other Infowars nonsense. I can't believe I'm being forced to support Hillary Clinton. This will be the death of the Republican Party, who will most certainly go the way of the Whigs. Hopefully a new party can rise up to challenge the Democrats. If not, the path to European socialism will be a swift one. But I suppose that beats Idiocracy.

My Mom was indie and Dad was a GOP...when the Oklahoma City bombing happened, Dad left. He was horrified at the vile spew from Limbaugh and other talk radio guys mouths; he firmly believe that Limbaugh ET AL and his formerly beloved party were to blame. He never looked back.

He is still arrogant, thinking he ever held any high ground. What? If Trump had discipline and could keep his mouth shut all would still be well?

The Republicans are flim flam all over from their phony "Supply side economcs" to "creation science" and climate science denialism and lying us into a war in order to steal Iraqi oil to Citizens United and ALEC and tax cuts for billionaires and everywhere in between.

"Limited governmment?" Government never shrinks. You know why? The population never shrinks. The economy never shrinks. "Limited government" is an empty bumper sticker slogan promulgated by charlatans and rubes.

Wrap your law school mind around that Mr. Marginal 15%er.

He may find that the democratic party is the old republican party. I hope not but we'll see. If Hillary stays true to platform rather than big money and wall street, we'll become again the dems of old. If she doesn't, we will be the new Republicans. Nothing happens in isolation and labels mean nothing. If he becomes a Democrat because our policies are his policies, then really, what's changed besides a name?

I'm not saying it will happen that way. I am saying I want to be the Democratic Party of old before the DLC.

with this same mindset. Not all, some are good, but many are in the "I got mine" like frame of mind.

At least he admits - many Republicans try to rationalize away the hate,
when all they are doing is deluding themselves.

Is just beyond my level of rationalization.

Very compartmentalized thinking.

(which i've been thinking was imminent since the gwbush days), the democrats will be the right wing party, and I'll probably have to leave them for a party that promotes peace on earth.

since he's still in deep, deep denial about what his party did to become what they are.

No, buddy, the Democrats don't have the worthless and disgusting people (your words) because the Republican Party has actively courted them since Nixon's race in 1968. They went where they were most wanted and now you're upset that they've taken over? Hey, buddy, you got to say "yay team" on their backs while Reagan transferred wealth from the people who created it to the people who hoard it and Stupid got us mired in expensive wars we have no hope of winning. This is your mess and you own it all. Don't think you can distance yourself from Trump or his supporters, you are the same type.

By the way, what is so bad about European socialism? Euorpeans love it and wouldn't trade it for anything we've got. Maybe they know something you don't know. My guess is that they know a lot that you don't know.
