This group has been at a few Hillary events lately (and, I believe, they also protested at some Sanders events during the primary).
Not cool to rush the stage at a Hillary event, especially in light of Trump's recent comments.

Here is what Eva Hamer, a member of the animal rights org, said about why the group wants to confront Clinton.

(13,870 posts)She did not like the word "pets," she called them "animal companions." She also told me that one day "specieism", the arrogant belief that people are better than other animals, would be as disdained a concept as sexism or racism.
When I pointed out that most animals do not live - or die - very well in nature, she said she would like to see the day that people would intervene if they saw one animal hurting another. I said, "You mean like a lizard eating a bug?" and she said Yes, absolutely.
I don't know whatever happened to her. Years ago I came across a shirt she had given me that said "Heart attacks are God's punishment for eating his animal friends."

(8,377 posts)To me, Trump sounds just like Donald Sterling -- the racist, senile owner of the LA Clippers. He was able to formulate complete sentences, but he was clearly off his rocker.
Some people think Trump is doing the insane stuff because he is a clever self-promoter. I am convinced he is well on his way to Sterling-land. He is not really capable of changing at this stage. What is left of his brain is on auto-pilot.
There was a little of this with Jerry Ford, and a lot of it with John McCain. Certainly by Reagan's second term, there wasn't much going on inside his skull. But Trump really seems the most senile of any Presidential candidate I have seen in the last 50 years.
It is a serious problem, and people should stop avoiding direct questions. This guy needs a thorough mental exam.

She just turned her back like he didn't exist.
And "poof" he was gone.
Heres the video. Look for Hillary to come on a little past the one hour 15 minute marker.

(26,262 posts)Working to stop cruelty to animals is a noble cause, but I just don't see the point of rushing the stage at a political rally. MAYBE I could understand if it was a rally with someone like Palin, or one of Trump's wildlife slaughtering sprogs, but even then you are just going to get tossed out the door and nothing is really accomplished.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)Hillary has a strong position against animal cruelty, as this group acknowledges.
Their cause is total animal liberation and species equality between humans and animals.

(26,262 posts)And I still don't understand why they aren't rushing Trump's stage, if that think that kind of tactic has value.

This group is for "animal liberation" which supports extending to animals most of the same rights afforded to humans.

(115,695 posts)because being a pet is a kind of involuntary servitude or something, so all the pet dogs and cats should be "freed" to live in the wild without the yoke of human oppression on their little furry shoulders?

(12,022 posts)What the heck is wrong with these animal rights folks?
oberliner
(58,724 posts)They are sort of a topsy turvy kind of group in my opinion.
But it isn't. Why? Because veganism for its own sake is not good for animals. Instead, the promotion of the vegan diet without animal rights messaging actively harms the animal rights movement. Moreover, the movements focus on mass consumer dietary change has little historical or empirical basis, despite being our movement's main strategy.

(5,049 posts)I swear these USSS people have ice water running throu their veins. As dumb as it was for the protestor to rush the stage, those who stand guard never flinch or react out of fear. In today's climate, I am doubly glad the men and women who serve are as good as it gets.
Years and years ago (Mondale/Ferraro) I had a chance to see them "in action" from three feet away. I have nothing but respect for their dedication and duty.
