did Donald Trump forge his doctor's note?

And if he did... isn't impersonating a physician illegal?

We already know he pretended to be people named John Miller and John Barron to call up newspapers and talk about how awesome Donald Trump is.

Plus, it was noticed at the time that the doctor appeared to be a bit... underqualified. A real doctor does not say that a healthy person's medical exams indicated only positive results, since negative results are what you want. A real doctor does not say that "laboratory test results were astonishingly excellent."

I think this story died out because at the time we were still kind of hoping that Trump wasn't actually batpoo crazy. But this could be more than further evidence that he is: what are the legal consequences for impersonating a physician?

P.S. Who here is GingerSaff on Salon? Because that person is a very gifted writer:

Trump's so-called "medical letter" sounds amazingly similar to statements made by "John Miller" (a.k.a. Donald Trump) to the effect that he had many, many models who wanted to date him. I'm surprised "Dr. Bornstein" didn't make any reference to Trump's prodigious manhood, gold-plated testicles, and unsurpassed virility... but I guess he demurred because that would be a red flag kinda thing.

The fact that the press gives him pass after pass on this stuff makes me wonder where all of the purported liberal media bias is. It seems they're bending over both literally and figuratively to prop up the fiction that this fiberglass-haired turd in human clothing is some kind of sane, serious candidate instead of the obvious sociopathic s**t stain that he truly is. At best, this is a long con designed to enrich him and his family even further; at worst, this is a manic fever dream or delusional head trip of someone who has had a break with reality. Either way, we're doomed. [snip] Go ahead and vote for Jill Stein if you must, even though that's the equivalent of setting your hand on fire to enjoy a little light in the darkness... hell, even vote for Gary Johnson if you feel the oppressive weight of regulation is preventing you from enjoying sewage-filled waterways and e-coli flavored meat products.... but understand the effects of your actions because Trump most certainly does not. And if you think that he can't get his more outrageous proposals acted upon, read up on twentieth century history. His acolytes are very, very angry and heavily armed and will make extremely loyal brownshirts.

4. We're both doctors in this household. We thought the note was part of the joke.

And it was a clear indication that the whole Trump campaign was merely performance art. To us, it meant that Trump was never serious. To our amazement, he was serious about his campaign. Which calls into question: who really wrote that doctor's note?

Trust me, NO doctor wrote it. Dr. Bornstein just signed his name to whatever the campaign wrote on his behalf.

It's so excruciatingly obvious that it was written by him. And yet, at the time anyway, everybody's reaction was just kind of "Huh. That's an unusual doctor's note."

Writing a fake, over-the-top letter while posing as a physician is such childish behavior from somebody who is running for president. And that he's so completely oblivious to how this kind of thing looks to other, normal adults... it's just so very odd. But of course, the reason everybody is talking so much about how odd he is is that there's just no way to put his oddness into words, but it's human nature to keep trying.

But "You draft it, I'll sign it" is not an unheard-of approach to letters of recommendation and the like. (Of course, it is then upon the signer to make sure that they can endorse the content before they sign it.) That's my guess as to what happened here.
