Timothy McVeigh did a lot of damage by himself. The only thing these nuts have lacked is a bona fide leader. Now they have one. Too many people are taking this way too lightly.

You are right. Now we have a birther calling for the death of Hillary Clinton and any SCOTUS justice she will nominate.

Sickening...

This is what the Republican agenda has brought. The vast majority of our elected (R) Senators and (R) Representatives still, to this very day, refuse to condemn Trump. They refuse to stand up and say 'this is not what our country stands for'. They refuse to repudiate the hate and danger that is Donald Trump. They are so focused on saving their own jobs that they will allow their nominee for the most powerful job in the world to call for assassination of members of the opposing party and say nothing. Or try and pass it off as a joke.

Regardless of who wins in November, the U.S.A. that I grew up in may never recover. The unthinkable is now all to thinkable. We have crossed too many 'red lines', we have accepted too many 'bridges too far'. We have shown the world that "At long last, we have left no sense of decency. We have left no sense of shame."

It used to be different, but, ...

Decency becomes having enough to dismiss ourselves from others problems.
Shame is fearing we can't.

Thus, we hold guns for a different reason than other places that hold guns and do not have the excessive gun deaths we have.

That reason is that we want to protect ourselves.
They, the others, want to hold guns to protect family, friends, community, nation, world, and themselves so that they can protect all those others.

But, I gather, we will no longer try to attack the reason, the reason we have wrong. Instead, we'll put in a butt plug into gun trafficking, pat ourselves on the back for lowering the amount of crap we smell, and then leave office before things blow up.
