1) in the Prez race, Romney won by about 15% (yes, Ugh)
2) I don't know about dems in the state, but (1) tells you some of that. The Hispanic population continues to grow, and predictions are that it could be Blue in the next few/several years
3) BUT, supposedly - although in this election, nationwide, I think we had a good Hispanic turnout (not sure about TX per se) - Hispanic turnout in TX isn't what it could be

(2,674 posts)I live in Dallas, one of the tiny blue spots on the red Texas map. Dallas, Austin, El Paso and San Antonio voted Dem but in all of these cases the surrounding suburbs are Repubs. Houston is Dem, but not as strong. The Rio Grande Valley has the strongest Dem areas. There was a great map in the Dallas Morning News today that shows how each county in the US voted (Dem or Repub). Traditionally, the Hispanics do not turn out in big numbers to vote in Texas, but I think that is changing. It is only a matter of time before the Hispanics make their voice heard in Texas and the Lone Star State turns blue. I am an old white lady Dem, a true "Yellow dog", straight ticket voter, and I hope to live long enough to see Texas turn into a Dem power house. Be patient folks, that day is coming.

It's the rural areas and city of forth worth that give republicans their advantages.
Dallas,Austin,el Paso, and San Antonio are voting democrats.
If Hispanics and Blacks get motivated to vote(some might think since Texas has been republican for so long their vote won't matter)
in larger numbers and more whites quit voting solid Republicans(39 percent of whites nationwide voted for Obama. There are white
democrats In every state Including Texas the problem Is we are minority among white voters)
It may take 2020 or 2024 but Texas will be a purple state eventully. If Republicans can't Immedelly count On texas they are Serious
trouble.LBJ thought civil rights would cost the democrats the south for a hundred years.By 2020 Texas and Georgia and possibly SC
could join Florida,Virginia and NC as battlegrounds.
