2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe demographic changes which gave Obama his win.
I found this interesting.
This year, Mr. Obama managed to win a second term despite winning only 39 percent of white voters and 44 percent of voters older than 65, according to exit polls not yet finalized conducted by Edison Research.
White men made up only about one-quarter of Mr. Obamas voters.
In the House of Representatives next year, for the first time, white men will make up less than half of the Democratic caucus.
snip:
Republicans increasingly rely on older white voters.
snip:
The minority population is increasing, and the white population is stagnant.

(18,402 posts)If Democrats are winning the majority of the country, which happens to have a changing demographics, it is because of their POLICIES, not identity politics. And by the way, a huge part of the electorate that does not include white men is WOMEN. Women of all colors, races, and religions.
Same with the Democratic delegation in the House. Boo hoo, white men. Not only do you have Latino and African American colleagues (not that any Democrats are complaining about that), but many of the new House members who were elected were WOMEN.
Republicans could win these demographic sectors if their policies were not so antediluvian and offensive.
PS: Minorities have been voting for white men for president since forever ... because the only people who have run for president were white men. Let's get over this.
secret to the GOP. It is not about the color of your skin but about Policies with with minorities. You could have ran Clarence Thomas against President Obama and still loss. Even if you ran Clarence Thomas against a Bill Clinton, Thomas still wouldn't have won the Black vote. It is about Policies Stupid!

(452 posts)each candidate got. Are white votes worth more than black or Latino or Asian or Jewish votes? Do they sparkle better? I don't think so, so the media's obsession with the white vote breakdown is stupid.
If you are a non-white U.S. citizen, you have the same right to vote as a white U.S. citizen. Your vote matters just as much.
