Sam Stein tweet about OFA

@samsteinhp: Plouffe is saying/hinting that they will keep OFA intact to help Obama with upcoming legislative pushes

@samsteinhp: Plouffe also saying OFA wont be transferred to any future candidate. Says they have to build their own grassroots movement to make it work

and totally agree that a transfer just wouldn't work. there has to be a connection and some magic like there is between Obama and his Awesome Team. You can't just rent it out, it has to be owned.

needs to be about teaching the Obama coalition, far too many of whom are sporadic voters, about the importance of these midterms. the republicans are bleeding and dying today, sure, but they are still far stronger at GOTV when it comes to the non-Presidential election years. i'm enjoying the victory, but 2014 casts a long, ominous shadow

Sure, the mid-terms' voter turnout is typically smaller than in a Presidential election year but the question is by how much. The OFA will utilize the same tactics and techniques that has produced this victory and this is a new day in political campaigns. OFA can more accurately gauge public opinion and what drives voters to care about politics. This is a deeper understanding than we have had in the past.

Yesterday's gone. Don't stop thinking about tomorrow.

They don't need to help a specific candidate - they need to help the party.

While OFA shouldn't be beholden to any candidate in the primaries, it should be available to future nominees. We now have an outstanding Democratic GOTV machine -- why throw it away and demand future nominees re-invent the wheel, with possibly much-lesser results?
