Maybe the Republicans *were* more enthusiastic

but we were more determined.

We've got shit to do, and you can get your silly, gimmicky, un-serious asses out of or way.

Running a country isn't a constant party. It's hard work with downs as well as ups. Maybe their "enthusiastic" crowds should just leave the business of governing to us grown-ups for a while.

That maybe they were more enthusiastic, but there simply aren't as many of them in the country at this point. As Rachel said on her show last night, facts are facts. They face a severe demographics problem and it is only going to get worse for them over time.

and the reason it will get worse is that their approach to minority outreach is based on two completely wrong ideas:

1. All they need is to find a couple "tokens" to add surface diversity to their party. Think Cain or Thomas.

2. Or they believe all they need to do is to convince women and minorities that what we think are our issues and concerns aren't really our issues and concerns. Frankly, this is almost worse. They will probably make a concerted effort to reach out to the Latino community, but won't really listen to what that community wants, needs or hopes for. It's the same approach for women - they try to tell me that choice is a distraction when I know that the ability to control if and when I have children is actual the very foundation of every other freedom I have. Telling me it ain't so is just insulting.

What they won't do, at least for another 4 - 8 years, is amend their policies and positions to match the reality of their constituents needs. And, in a democracy, that means they will continue to lose votes. It's not any more complicated than that.

It really motivated people to get out there and overwhelm the system.
