Romney Shellshocked at Loss

Mitt Romney was "shellshocked" at losing the presidential race, an adviser tells CBS News.

"They thought intensity and enthusiasm were on their side this time -- poll after poll showed Republicans were more motivated to vote than Democrats - and that would translate into votes for Romney. As a result, they believed the public/media polls were skewed -- they thought those polls oversampled Democrats and didn't reflect Republican enthusiasm. They based their own internal polls on turnout levels more favorable to Romney. That was a grave miscalculation, as they would see on election night."

Said the adviser: "We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory. I don't think there was one person who saw this coming."

Another staffer added: "There's nothing worse than when you think you're going to win, and you don't. It was like a sucker punch."

As a result, they believed the public/media polls were skewed - they thought those polls oversampled Democrats and didn't reflect Republican enthusiasm. They based their own internal polls on turnout levels more favorable to Romney. That was a grave miscalculation, as they would see on election night.

Those assumptions drove their campaign strategy: their internal polling showed them leading in key states, so they decided to make a play for a broad victory: go to places like Pennsylvania while also playing it safe in the last two weeks.

Those assessments were wrong.

Romney was stoic as he talked the president, an aide said, but his wife Ann cried. Running mate Paul Ryan seemed genuinely shocked, the adviser said. Ryan's wife Janna also was shaken and cried softly.

but then I realized it will be great for him to have to slink back into the House with his tail between his legs.

In somewhat of a surprise, Rep. Paul Ryan won reelection Tuesday with the lowest margin of his career, claiming just under than 55 percent of the vote in the Republican vice presidential candidate’s southern Wisconsin district. President Obama won Rock County, Ryan’s home, with more than 60 percent of the vote.

The man had no specifics or details. I'm sorry Mitt but i want details on your tax plan, details on what you would replace (if you were to replace it) Obamacare; and how you were going to create jobs. I think you were going to starve the beast so much that we were all going to have to join the military. What about the minimum wage or about FEMA? For a governor you sure left a lot of details out. And really Governor you would not take a $10 spending cut for $ 1 increase in revenue? And you call yourself a businessman?

They thought they would win because they were good looking and white. Who needs a plan? We got momentum.

Both wives looked stricken, and Ryan himself seemed grim. They all were thrust on that stage without understanding what had just happened.

What happened? You fucking lost you morons. You took your case to the American people, you had your chance to convince them that you were going to be better than Obama and you failed to do that. You pissed off more than half the country with your rapey philosophy and your dismissal of 47% of us as takers. You kept lying and getting caught in your lies.

Then the best statisticians in the country told you that a big loss was coming but you weren't worried about them because they seemed kinda gay and you figure gay people don't know what they are talking about. Idiots.

the fact that this idiot didn't have a concession speech written says it all.

Dude, Nate Silver was telling you all from the go that this was coming. MATH WAS TELLING YOU ALL THIS WAS COMING!!!!!!

That wasn't a comet carrying a brotherhood of Gods coming at you---that was the Train of Progress running you all down.

To the other staffer: no, what's worse than when you think you're going to win and you don't is dropping down on your knees and fellating Fox News for all your information and making all of your decisions based on fantasy and what you wished would be. What's worse is being a liar and believing that lies are never crushed by the righteous weight of the truth.

THE TRUTH ALWAYS OUTS.

If your boy shell shocked by the election, then that means that psychologically, he was never ready to become Commander-in Chief.

Your boy was ready to steal this election, buy off whoever he needed to, take the treasury as his own and probably was going to suspend the constitution and crown himself King.

He got the 5 Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique applied to him on Tuesday. Bill didn't see it coming, either.

That is why their tax plan wouldn't balance the budget, it would create a huge deficit. But since they only believe in tax cuts, they can only believe that tax cuts would balance the budget. Makes no fucking sense to any person who uses math/science as a basis for reality.

Anyone else who thought they would win after looking at the totality of the polls is just as stupid as R/R.
