2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRepublicans hate America
My logic:
America = Its people (Reference: "We the people" etc. etc.)
Majority of people voted for Obama (Reference: Election 2012)
Republicans hate Obama voters (Reference: Every fucking thing on FR)
Therefore Republicans hate the majority of America
So they need to stop this fucking sanctimonious patriotic bullshit and realize that they are a bunch of selfish freedom hating assholes. Then only can they grow and change.

(8,339 posts)Where minorities and women were suppressed and white men had all the power. They do NOT love America in reality. If they did they wouldn't try to suppress the vote and impose their sick beliefs on the rest of us.
Grateful for Hope

(6,148 posts)Also remember, not all non-Democrats are Republicans. Many are Independents. I think that is often forgotten here at DU.
Some people really do believe in smaller government, reduction of the deficit and social conservatism (pro-Life). This is what the Tea Party CLAIMS to espouse. Many of the Republicans I know also believe in these things. And so strongly that they tolerate the fact that there are racists in their party.
In fact, the reality is that not all Republicans are racist at all or ignorant. Just being Pro-Life can put someone in the Republican party, just as being Pro-Choice can sway one to be a card-carrying Democrat.
This decision to paint all Republicans with a single brush is actually rather childish, because it reduces ones ability to fight them based on positions.

(3 posts)Not so fast. I am Dem and Hub a Rep. We have some similar views and not so. I am not a full-fledged Dem but lean that way. Hate to say I know folks on both sides that have no allegiance to this country.

(22,670 posts)Post election, I have to wonder, perhaps Nate Silver has the numbers, how many Republicans either voted for Obama or chose not to vote at all.
Think about that. Mormons didn't lock-step support Romney. Evangelicals didn't either. The GOP is leading their flock off the extreme right-wing cliff. I have to imagine there are some members of their party who are splintering off, thinking this isn't the party of Reagan, this isn't the party of Goldwater, this isn't the party of Lincoln.
The Democratic Party is a diverse big tent bunch. I wonder if we shouldn't be welcoming our Republican friends, family and neighbors to it. Instead of fulfilling the Norquist/Rove prophecy of dividing us, we should be striving to find common ground that bonds and unites us.
I'll admit that I'm no saint either, I've cast my share of stones. But it's time to heal and move forward as one nation with one focus. We can do better in greater numbers, than on our own.

(17 posts)I'm happy to live in a really blue state, but occasionally I get bitched at by republicans at my school. Seriously, they need to grow up.
