For 24 years, the GOP tried to peddle the idea that one Ross Perot elected Bill Clinton in 1992. This was never backed up by anything other than wishful thinking and political spin. In reality, quite the opposite was true; Perot did not only fail to decide the election, but his percentage points mainly came at the expense of Bill Clinton in pre-election polling. But the myth survived, weakened WJC's mandate, the Clinton presidency and even political legacy.
Now, third party candidates are threatening to do this deed again. Even Fox News, one of the biggest peddlers of the Perot-myth, has admitted that Trump can only win with spoilers.
The third-party candidates take more from Clinton than Trump, as she holds a six-point lead in the two-way matchup: 48-42 percent.
