The thing about Presidential candidates is, they're supposed to recieve staff briefings.

Sure, there are names of peoples and places that might not necessarily be common knowledge to the average person (other than hardcore political and news junkies), but the campaign staff is supposed to provide the candidate with all the necessary information so at least they come off looking more informed than the man on the street.

The failure by a candidate to comprehend names or places that ought to have been sufficiently covered by staff briefings either means the campaign is incompetent, or that he or she is refusing to do his or her homework and read up. Neither is excusable. And it appears to be quite clear with both Trump and now Johnson, although at least Johnson has a ready made "small resourced third party" excuse.
