(58,785 posts)that gets across the reality that the Republicans have actually nominated for POTUS a seriously mentally dysfunctional man. POS's are very common in politics. THIS is truly a new and formerly unbelievable... Turns out I need a new word for "low" also.

(10,252 posts)Depraved is defined as "moral corruption," and it's (along with "depravity") are terms that I've been using recently.

original comment included the basket of deplorable -
The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic you name it.
And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up, she added.

Donald Trump and his spinners are outraged and some reporters are murmuring their disapproval ....... Lets stipulate at the outset that this kind of generalization is not defensible. Clinton should not have described half of Trumps supporters this way. People have all kinds of reasons for supporting their candidate party loyalty; reflexive negative partisanship; genuine distaste with the alternatives; meaningful, legitimate support for certain aspects of the candidates agenda, and not others; and so forth.
A Clinton spokesperson qualified these remarks in a series of tweets, pointing out that Clinton was talking about Trumps rally crowds, and noting that half of them appear to be alt-right types. But even so, Clinton doesnt know what ultimately is motivating half of Trumps rally attendees, and she should not claim to.
But if there is one group of people who should take their outrage about Clintons comments and stuff it in a very dark place, its Trump and his paid apologists, who unloaded in a series of tweets this morning. Trumps campaign even put out a statement claiming that Clinton revealed her true contempt for everyday Americans.
Oh, please. Two things can be true at the same time: First, Clinton overgeneralized about whats in the hearts and minds of Trump supporters. Second, her underlying characterization of the general nature of many of Trumps campaign appeals and her related observation that they really are successfully playing on the baser instincts of an untold number of Trumps supporters are 100 percent accurate.

(128,970 posts)Double-down.
It will be interesting if an ad has been (or is being) made called "Deplorable" that is nothing but a string of all the verbal vomit that has ushered forth from his mouth. I think there was an OP that mentions the new strategy for crafting her ads. Literally letting the opposing candidate's words speak for themselves. No need to have sneering voice-over narration with dark black and white imagery and foreboding music in an attempt to create a menacing candidate. The man IS a menace to society every time he opens his mouth - in full living color and without any other commentary needed!

When we on DU declare that "the ads write themselves" with all the crap that he has spewed over the decades, this is how you do it! It frames him as the lunatic that he is - right out of his own mouth and not even out of context.

(8,000 posts)I like the ones where she's in a plain blue blouse, talking to voters about things she wants to do for us. How she will grow jobs. How she will address climate change. Short and to the point. She's had terrific ads.

(128,970 posts)I expect she is really focusing ads in the central and western parts of this state via the Pittsburgh media market (which also covers eastern OH). Prez. O is supposed to be here Tuesday to rally the city. I just looked it up and they finally announced the venue - right in front of the Art Museum.

(8,000 posts)and that is often an area they concentrate on... at least that's what I've been told. This is my first presidential vote in Florida. So excited to be in a swing state instead of deep red Indiana.
BumRushDaShow
(128,970 posts)mainly because Obama won it twice. It was close but he did it, despite Rick Scott's intransigence, and because people were willing to stand in line for hours!!!
I am actually also a tiny bit more optimistic about IN only because Evan Bayh is running again and the last time he was on the ballot, Obama actually won IN (2008).
Wishing you all the luck!!

(17,199 posts)Hillary Clinton will win the key swing state of Florida thanks to the Latino vote, a Univision News election forecast predicts. Without Florida's electoral votes, Trump can't win in November.

Donald Trump will lose the election in Florida - the swing state with the most electoral votes - because most Latinos won't vote for him, Univision News predicts.
As a result, it's virtually impossible for him to win the White House due to the electoral college system, according to a a Univision data analysis of the key five swing states expected to determine the outcome in November.
The forecast, based on a statistical analysis of the presidential race, found that Hillary Clinton will win 48.39% of the vote in Florida, versus 44.87% for Trump.

(12,448 posts)I do think she should have confined the "deplorable" remarks to some of the rally-going Trumpites; a lot of them are very clearly alt-right. That's not a generalization but a fact, verifiable by their signs, their calls to "lock her up," and the ugly racist and misogynist chants.
But I'm glad she's sticking to her guns. The fake outrage by the Trump campaign and most of the media shows they know only sound bites. Nuance is a complete mystery to them.
