Am I spreading doom and gloom? Nope, these five statements were copied and pasted from the titles of emails I received from the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) trying to scare me into sending in contributions.
Hey, I don't mind contributing. I actually do more than my fair share in that department, but this type of hokey BS is not an incentive for me to give more money.
But okay, maybe I am taking too harsh a view of this - what do you'll think?

(45,806 posts)I usually send $$ directly to the candidate who I want to support and not to the DNS, DSCC, or any of the rest of those groups. I got a text message the other day asking for $$ and I sent a response, "How'd you get my cell#? No More $$ Go away!"
At least I haven't received any more texts.

Mr Maru
(216 posts)No progressive or sane human would dismiss the election of that piece of shit so casually as you do here with "crisis du jour"
Congress wouldn't allow Trump to do most of the things you're afraid of.
Tax cuts for the wealthy he could push through. But, a wall? Deportations? No chance.
Mr Maru
(216 posts)So the dumbest, most racist, xenophobic talking piece of shit in the country gets elected but you're okay with that because congress?
Brilliant fucking plan there.
Fish who spend too long in a sick aquarium can get a disease called "hole in the head." They literally get a damn hole in their head.
A person would have to have a hole in their head, to think that Donald Trump in the White House "wouldn't be that bad because Congress."
Thank You for playing.

(115,683 posts)Maybe they are effective because they keep doing it, but for me they are a huge turnoff; I now delete them without even opening them. Obviously we can't afford to be complacent but all that sky-is-falling stuff is extremely irritating and does not motivate me to contribute - it's so absurdly exaggerated that it has the opposite effect.

(9,527 posts)Which sucks, but it's how the game will work for at least a while longer. Now that there are fewer actual swing voters and the elected officials are aligned "properly" meaning that there are no Republicans that are more liberal than the most conservative Democrat (and vice versa) and the parties aren't working together, there's really not a lot positive to run on. Think how utterly unproductive the House has been since 2010 for example. And so they are reduced to running on "it's their fault".
And until we have a Republican party that isn't batshit crazy, this sort of gridlock is going to continue. Given the base of the Republican party just nominated Donald Trump, I don't see them changing after the election when Trump loses.

(8,421 posts)I hate their tactics. I did respond to Joe Biden, but only cuz it was Joe. Otherwise "delete".

(341 posts)for exactly this reason. And I wrote a paragraph to them stating that the constant negative subjects of their emails such as "President Trump" really pissed me off throughout the day.
