What is walking pneumonia?

The type of pneumonia Clinton has is unknown. But walking pneumonia is a very common type of the disease that does not require a hospital stay. People with walking pneumonia, which is often caused by a bacteria called Mycoplasma pneumoniae, often feel well enough to go about their daily activities and work. It may feel like they have a bad cold or a case of the flu. Anyone can contract walking pneumonia, which can be more frequent in the late summer and early fall, and people who work in crowded places are thought to be at a higher risk for getting it.

Within 3 days of first feeling sick.. It's not (always, apparantly) as benign as your quote makes it sound

4. Do you know that your friend had mycoplasma pneumonia?

He or she probably had a different, much more serious, form.

I've had mycoplasma pneumonia several times, and it can just feel like a persistent cough. I've never had a fever above 99 with it. That's how it came to be termed "walking pneumonia." Many people come to the doctor after walking around with a cough for several weeks, and it turns out to be pneumonia.

coughing. Just started to feel sick on Fri. Went home from school. On Mon. principal announced she had died on Sun. Lots of disbelief. Principal said it was "walking pneumonia". That's all I remember from a long time ago (but within the era of effective antibiotics)

She may have had streptococcal pneumonia. That's what Jim Henson died of. It's swift and deadly.

and can progress very quickly.

Walking pneumonia often feels like a cold, and a cough that persists for weeks. If your friend didn't have a cough, and got so severely sick so quickly, she probably had another form of pneumonia.

Very common when you have A.S. Last year I didn't take a few days to rest - and ended up with pleurisy.

Take your meds, use the inhaler, rest - you are good to go.
